UVmapping a body any suggestions?

#1

I’m curious what is the best suggestion of where I should start and end the edges (seam) to UV a full basic human body character.

feel free to post screens if you have too. I was able to achieve a perfect map with the tut provided on the luxology site, for a head, but now I want to do a whole body.

I’ve been struggling with this recently. In 103, UV Unwrapping seems more art than science. It’s hard to get predictable results (for instance, sometimes a finger will balloon to larger than an arm). I actually find it easier to use Pelt mapping in Max or Walking the Mesh in XSI. Also, in those programs you have better tools to weld everything together (snapping in Modo is kind of a pain, it seems to work with UV’s in the background, but not the foreground). Hopefully the unwrap tool will become more predictable in 201 and they will fill out some missing UV tools as well. For now, I will probably rely on other software for this.

Thanks Roger, yeah I found wrapping a head is actually pretty darn good but as for a body, yer right,

I’m originally a Maya user, working on XSI now, the pelt mapping hasnt impressed me yet on XSI, but a few months a go a Pelt Mapping tool was released for maya I really wanna try that out.

well thanks for the advice

I’ve unwrapped a complete animal successfully, toes and all. It’s all about picking your seams, don’t expect it to work on a whole arm and hand, do the arm, hand, and fingers seperately and just sew them back togehter where appropriate.
