UV template for NURBS surface

#1

Hi,

Is there any way to get a UV template for a NURBS surface in Max 2012? (or any other software?)

I’m working with surfaces imported from Autodesk Alias and I need a way to create detailed textures for the surfaces without converting them to polys.

For example, this surface in Max:

I want to produce something like this to base my texture on in Photoshop, a template showing the edges of the surface, much like what you get when you render UV template in Unwrap UVW modifier for poly objects:

Thanks,

Not familiar with Max, but in Maya you can’t view NURBS uv coordinates in the uv editor (due to them being built into the NURBS surface itself).

For a trim surface like that, just create a duplicate of it and convert the duplicate into a polygon object so you can create a uv snapshot/template. Not sure what tessellation options Max has available but in Maya I’d probably play around “Count”, “Fit” or “General” tessellation conversion methods until I got something which provided a reasonable representation of the original surface.
