Using Vue-Camera in Maya without Vue-Content

#1

hi,

i got a little question? because of some errors with vue and the new windows 7 release candidate, i need to find a little hint to get my vue working. and here is what i wanna do.

i created my whole landscape with vue and saved it as test1.vue
then i imported it in maya 9.0. there is a camera called “vue-cam” which shows me
the whole vue scene i created within vue.
now i animated an object which is flying over my landscape.
what i want to do now is:

i want to render the vue-landscape out of vue 7. and the moving object i created in maya i want to render out of maya.

to get the camera match i use the vue-camera in maya to render my object. but there is the problem. i can’t get rid of all the vue-objects. when i delete all the proc.terrains and water and the sky i already do have kind of atmosphere which i cannot turn of. but i need a scene in which my object is flying and the background is black (no vue-objects any more).

how can i get rid of all the vue-objects? i need to use the vue-cam for the exact position because the vue-cam also moves a little bit.

can anybody help me with this problem?

thx

I don’t know Maya, but in C4D, in the Vue menu, under File, Options, you can uncheck “render sky”, “render atmosphere” and “render objects”.

…and what you want to do is best done in Post anyway. You’ll need to render out alpha channels for each frame, which should be in the frame’s .tif file anyway (or .iff, if you prefer).

Maya’s alpha controls are on a per-material basis, generally. Open your ship’s materials and check the matte opacity and leave them all at 1. Change every other materials’ matte opacity to 0. Then, in your frames, the ship will be white and all else will be black (in the alpha channel). Done.

Hope this helps, if not ask more questions and I’ll try to help more. I’m surprised you got Vue to work with Maya at all, personally. I’ve never had it work before.

@ bruno021:
hi. you are right. there is a possibility to uncheck the fields “render sky”, “render atmo”, “render objects”. but after doing this i already started to render the scene again. AND … all the objects were still there. hmm.

@ infernaldarkness:
that’s of course a good idea but i hoped that there is way much easier.

thx guys for your help

Oh, maybe I didn’t understand you right, you want to render the Vue elemnts in Vue, and the Maya elements in Maya wihtout the Vue lements? The only way would be to comp the 2 after both apps have finished rendering. But for indirect lighting accuracy, I would keep the Vue sky in Maya.
