Using Uv Layout First Time… Problems

Hi to all
I am actually posting on behalf of my son who is doing a 3d course
We all work on Macs at home and my son is using Zbrush and Maya without any problems
His course now requires the use of UV Layout. There seems to be a version for Mac but we have had no success in opening the downloaded trial version. My son has contacted the developers about this but we still are unable to run this software. It is looking very likely that we are going to have to buy a PC (and a powerful one) just to be able to run this software. I know nothing about 3d generally but is this normal practice for people working in the 3d industry to have to have 2 computers due to software incompatibility issues? We were hoping to be able to operate everything on just one computer.
Any thoughts, advice?

Hello
most 3d programs are not ment to run as native mac programs but with macs that can emulate a PC. Just not enough money to be made from the Mac market. though cinema4d makes a fine product from what i recall. most any company doing 3d will have a vast majority of the systems as PC’s.
