Using Depth Matte?

#1

I have two .tga image sequences. One is the rgb and alpha images, and the other is the greyscale zbuffer image. I want to use the zbuffer to create a Depth of Feild effect in After Effects. None of the tutorials I can find online work from two seperate sequences. I would appreciate a step by step to getting this to work, or link to a tutorial that does it from two seperate image sequences. Thank you!

sorry, I don’t have time to go in depth but here goes…

Add both sequences to the same comp.
Turn off the zdepth layer.
Add “Lens Blur” effect to the rgb layer.
Select the zdepth layer as your “Depth map channel” in the effects panel.
Adjust the “Iris Radius” to change the blur effect intensity.
If the blur effect is having the opposite effect of what you expected, check the
“Invert Depth Map” box to reverse it.

You may want to make sure you check the box that says “repeat edges” or something to that effect. You’ll see what it does when you use it…

Good luck
