USB3 to eSATA w/port multiplier support?

#1

I was looking around and unable to find a USB 3.0 to eSATA converter with port multiplier capability.

Has anyone come across or used one of these before?

If with port multiplier capability you mean MP support, I’ve helped a friend with a setup before and used this:

With good results. No issues with a USB3 mount of the MP enabled added port from an optical stack.

MP is finnicky on the best of days though, YMMV.

thanks Raffaele!

Can you share more about what you’re trying to do? Port multiplier plus USB for storage sounds misguided to say the least. :argh:

misguided for certain… and not meant for long term use. I have an eSATA JBOD (Sans Digital) I use for my workstation (local backups) with a lot of spare room on it and need to transfer about 2TB of data off my backup server. So, I thought about doing the converter temporarily just to get the files off.

The external array is:

and requires PM support on the controller… however, the server does not have an eSATA port (just USB3.0), a bit of a quirk. But the item Raffaele recommended would probably work ok.

I’m just working options at the moment as the server is technically out of service and I have to RMA the entire unit). I can spin it up (with my own FRU  ), but I don’t want it running for too long without the manufacturers warranty covered part in it (I still have 390 days left on the warranty). It’s been a tad irritating to say the least… the part is a 4$ part, and they can’t send “just” the part, but are shipping an entire new server out. ridiculous.
