Upres a tif for video

#1

I have several tifs that has a resolution of 400 dpi but are at 1024X700 pixels. Since dpi really has no place in the video world, how can I convert the dpi down to 72 to increase my pixel width and heighth?

I’m sure there is a certain amount of math that needs to be applied. I just don’t know how to do it. I know you can’t upres photos but I thought you could increase the pixel width and height if you had a resolution higher than 72.

Thanks,

It’s generally considered bad form to post the same question in multiple forums within the same site. You’ve got two replies to your question up in the Photoshop forum.

I feel that since there are multiple forums, I SHOULD be allowed to post. Photoshop people don’t always know what video people know and vice versa. If I want a well rounded opinion, I surely have the right to, especially if I don’t abuse the unspoken rule multiple times and unless an administrator of the site kindly asks me to stop, I will continue to do so at my discretion. These are forums in which not everyone trolls every subject. If the site is to continue to hold multiple forums where not every answer can be answered in the area in which you ask a certain question, then I typically would expect some questions to have double posts, especially if the topic spans more than one subject.

Thank you for your input. If you are a moderator, I certainly apologize. If you are not and would like a moderator to review this post, I welcome it. If you are trolling because you are bored, I think I’ve certainly made a great case for why I would want to double post.

Isn’t DPI a measurement that exists for print only? Therefore the only spatial measurement which is meaningful for video is the width and height in pixels. You could upres in PS (using a plugin) but you’d be creating new data from what you have already, not revealing existing detail.

Therefore, you’d have issues with visible artifacts, like the horizontal aliasing on curved outlines that affects video upscaled from SD to HD.

Pixels are pixels. A 1024x700 pixel image at 72 dpi is still 1024x700 at 400 dpi. Simply go into photoshop and change the dpi and uncheck the “resample image” box.
