Unwrap UVW issues

#1

I’m working on 3d branding, so I need to be very accurate on texturing because of graphic logo and words.
Although the model isn’t so complex, somehow texturing him so messed.
As you will see in images below, the checker pattern isn’t seem correctly on model.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5LjdBw0kmkacjByUkY1dXhkeDA/edit

I’m tried every method (on 3Ds max):

  1. select edges and convert them as seams, and choose the faces for making them planar, or on projection.
  2. relax
  3. flatten map and stitching
  4. strigthen and so on.

and no one method isn’t helped me.

So you were my last chance… help…

p.s: I can’t insert images to this post. i’m click on insert and it say like this: Now I know how, THANKS Lluis!

Upload your images on a free server, like imageshack, and paste the link in your post.

About your texture … maybe a simple projection would work fine.

#3

thanks Lluis for the tip about images.

what you mean a simple projection? with which tools how to do that?

#4

Which software? For 3ds Max you can find a solution here.

I posted a script in the very same thread, feel free to use it

thanlks for the tip.

did this script suit to 3ds max 2012? I see that the thread posted 4 years ago.

anyway tried the method you suggested, although this solved the problem of distortion in corners, but new problem happened.

thanks Lluis for tip on images.

what you mean about simple projection? UVW map modifier?
I tried projection on unwrap uvw too.

how to do that?

#7

I don’t know, but it should work. It’s all very basic usage of edit poly, channel infos and uv mapping.

Should take less time to try out instead of asking though.

Use a planar UV map, either in UVW mapping modifier or unwrap.

Will cause distortions on the sides though. Unless you only want to project a logo or such I woul advise against it.

#9

yes, I have used this method. this a cylinder texture so planar not good for this. The texture needs to seem correctly on sides. the client demand 360 view of model.
If on texture was a solid color on sides, so this best solution.
but there a text and graphic on sides, which stuck me.

in the last method the sides was perfect, but a you saw on the last image there still distortion, and because this uvw map paste, I can’t tweak the verticles on edit uvw…

I have tried your script (working well on my version  ), on model and just one side distorted, maybe because something wrong with seams and I need tweak them?

I can modify new seams as I want and then apply your script? this will not change the seams?

I don’t know. haven’t worked with 3ds max for a while. But to be honest, this thing would be done in 5 minutes with a new unwrap above the TS(2 minutes if you don’t post a question evey 10 seconds ;)).

#12

much more better than before, but still there distortion.
anyway, thanks for help.

#13

there a solution that solved by Valen Wagner from Area forum.

http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-3ds-max/autodesk-3ds-max–3ds-max-design-2012/unwrap-uvw-issues

Thanks for everyone that helped me on this post.

#14

Another Unwrap above the TS - told you so.

#15

yes, but after the unwrap on TS he suggested to do one more step - “quick peel”, which what did the job.
