Unwanted bone stretching on one axis (3ds max)

Hi,

i´m still following the digital tutors tutorial on character rigging for production.
The next problem i ran into:

Everything works fine so far except for the rotation of the center of gravity on one axis.
When i rotate it on that axis, the bones for the spine/head start to stretch in that axis.
Since i don´t want to backtrack all the way, i was hoping someone could tell me what to look for.
Linking mistake? Frozen transform problem? Wrong lock in the curve editor?
Anybody experience this problem before?
