Unknown error has occured, while creating Subdivision level :(

#1

Hi,
I’ve got a complete model that I’m trying to get into Mudbox for texturing and painting.
The problem is that it seems to crash whenever I try to add a subdivision level and I need the levels because I’m trying to stamp some scale bump onto this model. Without using Subdivision it doesn’t look right(rough) as you already know.
My model is pretty clean and tidy so that’s not what’s crashing it.
So does anybody know why it’s crashing on me? Anything I should check?

#2

its seams that your model isnt clean enough for mud…
check again also your uvs…

#3

Well I’ve fixed up the trouble areas that I could see and double checked everything(including the UVs) and now I can make it to Level 1 subdivision but anything beyond that gives me the generic Windows error (This application has stopped working).

#4

and its working fine with the mudbox objects…?
if yes your model isnt clean…

#5

post your level 0 model somewhere , so we can look at it

#6

Ok,here it is.

#7

is that really your basemesh or ist it a smoothed version of it?
i would definitively think about cleaning up this mess…there are poles all over the place and bad polygons mudbox doesn’t like. there are holes in the mesh and the uvs are messed up.

#8

That was the smoothed version.
Here’s the base model.
And what do you mean by holes? There aren’t any. If you’re talking about the holes on it’s head, that’s his nostrils.

Andarthiel that mesh is direct out of the hell…
please create a clean mesh with decent uvs…
mudbox wont work with such a mess… sry…

use the cleanup feature in maya to find the problematic areas…

mud works best with clean quadonly meshes…
clean non overlapping uvs with enough space to bleed…

maybe try the mudbox dino basemesh…
