Wybl-futuristic hover craft
This is a nice entry reminds me a bit of a ufo. To make it more sleek I would have worked on the streamline a bit more. This end result is a bit clunky, mainly because of the side-pods. I think the design process would have benefitted from some concept sketches before starting to model. Things that are modelled early on tend to stick in the final model. A better focus on the concept stage will yield some better results I think. If you worked some more on the round ufo like concept you had in the beginning it could have gone the way of supersleek and more futuristic.
The execution of the model and texturing is good, but the model is hard to judge because of the lack of wireframe shots (i had to look in the wip thread, and the pics there didnt show the whole model). The texturing of the cockpit could have been better and the detailing of the outer body could have been a bit more.
MVP - Flying Fish
Nice concept, reminds me of Olimar’s rocket in Pikmin. While certainly on of the more urprising concepts in the compo, it doesnt strike me as being sexy. Its shiny though, a bit too much. Its hard to have a good look at the model because of it, maybe tone down the hdri in the render.
The idea of the big wheel is nice, but it somehow makes the whole thing a bit less sleek. Its good that you took the various conditions (land, sea, air) into consideration, but concentrating a bit more on just one would have given you the opportunity to make the whole thing more sleek. The diffuse map could also use a bit more detail and same goes for
the cockpit.
The high poly version looked really nice, but the low poly model could do with a bit more poly tweaking to get the whole thing more smoothed out. I would have taken ALOT of polies out of the back wheel to put into the wings and side pods for example.
Somnambulance - 2060’s Racing
NGood concept, looks very much like a nascar racer of the future. Strange thing is, the model looks good, except for the main cockpit/chassis. It doesnt have the intensity of the rest of th model, the sidepods and rear wings look very nice and detailed, but the main chassic comes across as cluncky and a bit dull compared to the rest of the model. If the
chassis was more sleek, a bit more elongated for example, and had a bit more of a earodynamic flow it would have come across as begin sexy. I would also take some of the polies used on the back and underside vents of the sidepods to create some geometry on the side of the sidepods. When designing vehicles for a racer, its best to concentrate on the
rear, top and side of the vehicle. Put as little as possible details in the bottom because this is the part you’ll see the least.
Texture wise, I think this concept could have benefitted from being a bit dirty and banged up. Especially considering it would take part in a highly competetive race. Even if it was supposed to be a super shiny vehicle. Also some panels and screws and stuff would have made the texture a bit more interesting.
Ghostscape - shirow
Nice concept, although it looks like it belongs in a different competition. This doesnt come across as either super shiny or sexy. The cockpit in the final render looks like the only shiny part (and the claws) So its hard to consider this entry for points. If it would have been a competition to design a futuristic militairy vehicle it would fit better.
Overall I would say the model is a bit too organic. Which in itself is fine, but it isnt carried throughout the whole model. The main engines and rear tailwings are to angular and mechanic. This makes the model a bit unbalanced. If you look at some helicopter designs by Matsume Shirow, you would see it hardly has any straight lines in the design.
The texture is nice, but you could have taken it a bit further by adding dirt, panel edges, scratches, rivets etc. More Also with this amount of polies you could at least made a suggestion of a cockpit by adding an inside with some silhouetted alpha crossplanes for pilots.
Orik - Rolling hovering super sportcoupé (3 points)
Great design, winner by a mile. This one captures the essence of the competition best. The concept of this car was the strongest througout the competition. You took great advantage of the enviroment map, this really makes this model shine, and super, and sexy. Send this on to audi, alfa or peugeot, and with any luck we’ll be driving in it in the future.
without the hovering part ofcourse. One small crit though, for the final model you could have tweaked the normal map in photoshop so the edges of the normal map wouldnt show up as obviously as they did now. Also I dont know if I would like to sit in a car without being able to look out of the windshield.
Caccaduu - Spherebike (1 point)
Most original design. I like this one very much. the only thing really holds it back is the weird ball at the front. I dont know what it’s for but it definitely distracts from the rest of the model, which is really excellent. Maybe the ball would have been more interesting when it was somekind of metallic machine thing, or just a ball of energy. Or maybe a ball of lava with the glow showing through the cracks.
I would have liked to see a wireframe somewhere along the line. The cockpit/readouts could have used a bit more love though. The handles look a bit bland. Also I think the rider would get some severe burns on his legs if he was to race that thing. Still very sexy though.
dan - Miami Vice Bling bling (2 points)
Very good concept sketch, right out of the automotive industry. While the concept comes across as really sleek, the model seems a bit more clunky. Not that its necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely taked away some of the sexyness.
I think the masculin wheels are the main culprit in this. If the rims would have been more futuristic and sleek, it would add to the total package. Transferring some more polies from the chamfers on the body to the rims would have worked imo. Overall the design takes a lot from the volvo 3cc concept car and aston martin db9 This gives the car a look of something thats somehow familiar. Maybe it could have been closer to the concept, which looked really sexy on its own account.
Invention - Speed Demon
Enzo meets Murcielago, with a rear end of a saleen. While the design takes a lot from these top cars, the end result comes across as a bit unbalanced in my opinion. Some more work on the rear of the car would have made it a bit more interesting. It comes across as being too long and it loses some impact because of this. it looks like the front had more attention while most attetion in race game car models should go to the back of the car. If you look at the rear render of the car, its hard to make out what goes where.
Also the mesh looks a bit messy. If you have more evenly distributed poly glow, it helps the overall look of the model, and enhances the way the shiny maps look on the model. If you have a nice flow to your mesh, it would seem more rounded out and more sleek because of this. The final render could also use some work. More specular and a reflection map would
have made it better to look at. Also the wheels, and especially the rims look like an afterthought.

Overall a very good turnout, and compliments to everyone who finished. Sorry if I came across as a bit harsh, I hope my crits help you out in the future. See you all in the next competition!
