DS or PSP specification environment.
- Sci-fi
or - Realistic
or - Stylised (cartoony?)
Hey everyone.
We are going to continue with these challenges, so no worry there.
I am in the process of trying to get in contact with the third judge who seems to have disappeared on us (he is swamped with work right now), so I might have to get another. After all, as of the moment, we have a tiebreaker.
Keep posting ideas.

defenetly some PSP environtment stuff, specially Top View sounds good idea
Definately keep the environments rolling, character comps are all too common. A top scroller would be neato.
plus we have to give a chance to the level designers and enviornment artist also. I like drawing cha but modeling I just do not like that for some reason I have always liked doing enviornments more than cha designs.
I just did a character for the cgchat minicomp of the Low Poly Remake and I was thinking how fun it would be to remake an entire scene from the game I chose (Secret of Mana).
I am really feeling for a PSP environment because the specs are high enough for realism and low enough so that everyone can have a go.
Maybe have the challenge to try to get as much realism out of the psp specs?
if we do a CO-OP, we need to extend the deadline because its hard enough for 1 person to get things done, if your waiting on someone else, it might kill it. i know we’re all busy with work and stuff…
as for next challenge, top down environment sounds cool.
co op would be a pain in the ass. I have seen people team up in the past and nobody objected it.
A little update on the progress of the current challenge
I personally apologize for such an large gap between the challenges. I have been trying frantically to find an third judge to judge to the entries, and decide the winner. I have been searching for weeks, but have not been able to find anyone. I am desperately e-mailing members of our community here to see if they have the time to judge, so we can hope to have the winner of the Moving Juggernaut Vehicle Level contest soon
As of the moment, I am also trying to get the next challenge to have individual voting. This has been brought up in the past, but I still believe that we can incorporate such a feature alongside the judges panel successfully. The only thing that was stopping such an feature is the actual community, as I have said, it has been brought up before, and each time, it has been decided to turn down such a feature mostly because it is seen as too complicated, and the voters can be accused of playing favorites when it came to casting their vote
But, I thought I would bring the issue back up
Lastly I am also trying to get some prizes lined up for the winner of the next challenge
Again, this has been tried before (by Bentlama) but the lack of such recognition make it hard to find companies willing to donate. Which makes sense if you think about it. After all, we are just a friendly small community
I figure that if prizes were to become common in UGACs, companies will be more receptive to the idea if it has been done before, so I figure (if the community will allow) that I will pay out-of-pocket for the upcoming challenges prize (again, if we decide to have prizes be apart of the UGACs)
Again, sorry for such a delay. I am trying to bring the current contest to an end as soon as possible.
Lets keep the ideas coming

-Front Page Plug coming soon…
Lets get this next challenge started!
:arteest:
I think everyone here likes the psp top or side view game envio idea.
I also love the coop idea. Sounds interesting but we really need to divide the work load.
Perhaps one guy works on the Envio while the other works on main character and 2-4 enemies.
We need someone or some people to give us an idea of what an envio would be for psp and how much polys would be in the characters and enemies in a game.
A side scroller platform would be great, either as a shooter or a more classic mario feel. You could even throw HUD designs into the mix (stat display art, such as the Castlevania Health meter).
Perhaps a collab could consist of Level, Characters and Interface. Especially if you made it a DS game, as you could incorporate elements of the touchscreen concept.
Some great ideas flowing around here!
I thought that I would like to comment on the aspect of co-opp challenges.
I really like the whole idea of it, and think it will bring a lot to the legitimacy of the challenges. The only thing I would like to add is that we need to remember to keep everything fair. Give everyone the same rules; let them work independently or with a partner and just wait to see the results. (as we can not predict how such an feature as co-opp would be received by the general public) I would also like to add that we should not be too restricted when it comes to dividing what each participant needs to accomplish, as the amount of work will never come out even because of one persons (or the others) lack of time (the amount they can contribute to the project) or the skills. Let the groups decide.
Just my 2cents.
