UGAC – Moving Juggernaut Vehicle Level - Rules

#101

well, since i missed two days over christmas & will probably miss two days over new years, i’d say four, but that’s just me. going back to work now!

I need about 5 days inserted between the 25th and the 1st… After new years I am supposed to jet off for a film project for the next 4 months, so I need more time personally, about 5 days will cut it. If you could next day air those over, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

seriously though, I think there is enough time allowed in the challenge. It seems like the popularity is dropping off? Maybe if you guys ran another front page plug announcing a week left or something, it may motivate people to finish.

#103

Ya. That is common during GAC’s sadly. Dozens of people enter, but only a few finish. It was expected with this current challenge, merely because of the vast challenge of creating a level. I bet you that the next challenge will be something a little more down to earth

#104

you guys though about running another front page plug, or alread tried it? I have seen a couple of these challeges go by and it seems that heavy traffic can encourage people. For a ‘professional’ forum this challenge is very down to earth, and one of the best ones I have seen.

If a lot of people are like me they dont even really get going until it is crunch time - . Now is a good time to get those people amped.

#105

I think it’s just that time of year,I’m only taking part because work isn’t as busy around this time
though I haven’t touched my model in a couple weeks…& don’t expect to get back to it till next week sometime…an extra few days would be cool, but I’m still happy to work to the original deadline.
…it is a challenge afterall…& part of the challnge is meeting the deadline

#106

I am doing fine with the deadline so far. But A lot of people have slowed down quite a bit. Maybe extending the time limit and also getting an update on the front page might help.

#107

so any chance of a front page plug with this? it may repeak some of that interest everything started out with.
as for the deadline extension? i’m kind of residing myself to the fact that if i get it done for then, i get it done for then, but i’m not going to rush it. hopefully this weekend i get some time to work. but worst case scenario, i’ve got a nice new addition for my demo reel

#108

ok, just wanted to know if there was any decision.
mine’s incomplete from the original idea, but i’d still have something to show for it, i just need to render & compile my textures together & whatnot. the only problem is i’m working the dayjob a long portion of today & an even longer portion tomorrow, so if there’s a final submission thread i’ve got to post to by tomorrow, i’d have to post on it by tonight.
… unless of course there’s an extension?

-J

#109

Small extension until next Monday, in hope that we will get a few more people to finish, and allow time to gather more judges

This will also enable time for users to post ideas on what they think the next challenge should be, although it will ultimately be up to the winner.

Submission thread will be posted tonight, and hopefully become a sticky shortly afterwards.

#110

awesome! yeah, thanks! that’s a huge help. next monday should be more then enough time for me personally. i’ll definitely be able to have something in by then i should hope. that is going to be the 16th, just to clarify, yeah? cool, thanks again, man!

as for the next challenge’s topic, let’s get the discussion rolling. i’m a big fan of fighting games, so i’d love to do a character along those lines, you know? something like a soulcalibur 3 type deal. as for the actual theme, nothing’s coming to mind. but that’s just me. can’t wait to see what other people have to say.

thanks again, devilhacker!

#111

Yep. The 16th…
Look forward to your entry.

Ya, I agree that we should get an topic for the next topic going…
It should be a little more down to earth, but in the end it is up to the winner as to what the next challenge topic will be.

#112

thanks for the extension

#113

yeah, i completely understand that. i was just putting it out there as an idea/suggestion, to spark some thought on the topic so we have a quick turnover between this current challenge & the next. sorry if i was stepping on toes or anything.

-J

#114

Oh, you were certainty not.
Keep the ideas coming. The current challenge has been less than perfect, especially with the challenge seeming to have a ‘falling out’ including an long pause between the last challenge and the current one. I look forward to the next challenge having a shorter time gap, and to be more appealing for more people; hopefully in the process re-attracting some of the old regulars.

#115

since we were on enviornments maybe doing an arena type level design for fighting games would be awesome instead. Thing is what I liked about this one is that it is rare to see a level design or eniornment art comp. A arena for a fighting game seems pretty realistic to me.

#116

I’d probably jump at the chance to do another level…though I’d suggest something smaller would be better, something that can comfortably be finished in under a week
the crate challenge a while ago was the perfect challenge in that it was a small model & it had alot of participants.

is there a compiled list somewhere of all the previous challenges?

Cheers
Stefan

quote for agreement.

…also other topic suggestions(Sorry if any of these have already been done. Haven’t read the archive:)

The Rookie weapon: The weapon you start with in a fps. Like a knife, a gun or a dead cat.

End boss: Big and angry or cute and girlie?

Environmental environment: Trees, rocks, caves. Make a nature scene.

Specific gametype: for example, Make four buildings for a platform game.

The ultimate weapon: Death ray, Plasma sniper rifle…or a dead cat.

Sidekick: Like a sexy girl, biker dude or a monkey.

#119

I have got lots of requests for an lower poly GAC featuring models you would see on a portable system such as the DS or PSP…
It would defiantly let more people finish and maybe even post multiple entries.
:buttrock:

PS: Keep the Ideas coming!

psp enviornment for a top view ship, heli shooter… Old arcade like etc. You have to make the enviornment and a the main ship with the upgrades and diff guns etc. and set them into levels of 1-5. So the first ship is basic… the 2nd one is more beefy and etc.
