Juggernaut Vehicle Level

Building an Moving Game Level
Imagine a vehicle so big and powerful that makes your spine shiver as you feel it rumble on approach. From the airships in Final Fantasy to the Mobile Fortress in Appleseed, it is now your chance to create and show us your imaginary mechanical monster in a game environment setting.

You are to create a land, sea, air or space vehicle that the player is to explore. Examples: On the assault map “Convoy” in UT2004, the main mesh of the level does not move, it only appears to be moving. The "Scarab" in Halo 2 is animated and moves through the level. You must include at least some exterior and some interior to your Juggernaut, it cannot be all exterrior or all interrior. There are no game genre restrictions.

Your vehicle does not need to be animated, and perform motion, but has to appear to be capable of moving. No crashed Juggernauts! This is a vehicle that will be boarded by the player andexplored by the player but not controlled by the player. Once the player boards, they are in for a ride.

Seems interesting, I will think about doing this, if I can! I am currently doing the assassin contest at 3dtotal! Cool stuff!

#5

Sounds like fun! I’ll have a crack.

#6

this sounds great! i think i’ll give it a try

#7

Sounds cool to me:cool: . I’m in for this challenge:bounce: :bounce:

#8

maybe i’ll spend some time on this. 5g poly limit now thats fun:D

#9

5000 for the Exterior and the Interior ? What are you shooting for Playstation 1 specs ?

#10

No, UT2004 specs + some. 5K is realistic for an individual to manage.

#11

That means 5000 Tri’s for both interior as well as exterior of the vehicle or space ship or whatever. Does it includes the env. for the vehicle I mean space station, vehicle station etc…

#12

Just some quick questions, can normal mapping be used
I assume the tri count would not include the character/s using the level?
and would the environment be part of it ? (i.e. the dry rocky canyons in the
UT2004 convoy map)

#13

Oook Oook i also forgot, I’m guessing from the challenge title it has to be a vechile, but could it possibly be organic or semi-organic…or even sentient/alive ( a really big giant self-aware robot with the level on it or in it? :lightbulb

#14

finally, here we go

5000 interior & exterior. it doesn’t include the environtment

now all we got to do is make this thread a stickie and clear the forum from the last challenege so there;s no geeks and freaks visible

good luck to all

#15

Count me in! Heven’t done anything low poly for a while so it will be a challange for my texturing skills too.

#16

OK, very cool theme and specs! I have a feeling I might very well give this a go.

Good job on the guidelines and manual btw

.

#17

AWESOME!!! HELL BOY IS RIGHT !!!
g-luck to all

Yes the limit is for both the inside and out side of the vehicle.

It does however, not include the environment that the vehicle would technically be in. if in a game.
In the pre planning of the challenge, we had an hard time deciding if the environment should be included, but we decided that, such a rule would be to time consuming. So the specs are just for the vehicle; though, if you have spare time, and wish to make an environment to toss your vehicle into for something such as a Beauty shot, we have no objections.

Look forward to your entry.

Edit: looks like Hellboy already got to the answer to the question.
Thanks.

PS: About your question; I am working on getting an forum moderator to empty the old challenge out of the thread, including the old “geeks and freaks” sticky

#19

Normal maps =Yes
Poly count does not include the character or level.
But the same thing applies as with the environment; the specs are just for the vehicle; though, if you have spare time, and wish to make an environment or Character for something such as a Beauty shot, we have no objections.

That is ok.

-Looking forward to your entry.
