UGAC - Megaman - yannes

#1

hi all!
this is the first game art challenge i attend. hurray!
well, like i said, im going to make a Hit-Man
kind a desperado’s stile guy is in my head, with a silenced guitar-case

but (un)fortunately i have an other hitman idea: a strong thug vith a stunning melee weapon
i dunno is it acceptable to do both of them, or i have to choose

im really not a drawer tipe person, soo i slam jam in the middle of this challenge and show the first modells

here is the first guy. he’s the spitting image of Banderas, isn’t he

it’s not textured yet, just the strange eye.

Lookin’ mighty cool, Yannes. The only thing I think I’d change right now is his face and hair. They don’t look very much like they’d fit in a Megaman game, so maybe you should change them up a bit. You can see in the link they had in the rules thread that a lot of the villains have big eyes, tiny noses and none really have hair. He might look more like a robot if he was bald or something.

#4

I agree with Swizzle, save one point: I’d totally ditch the nose.

Also, it’d be cool if the boots resembled cowboy boots, with the toe pointing up and the…er, tall part that covers the shin/calf split in front and curving up and around to the back…

Sorry for the atrocious description. Suffice it to say that I think this guy would look good in oversized cowboy boots.

With spurs, of course.

thx guys
well, there it is the noseless bald guy. i think i should rename him jackson-man…
and yes i was thinking cowboy boots too

#6

hi guys,

i was thinking about this name thing, i used my big mouth to criticise someone’s work ( hey, that doesn’ look like Thunder Man… ) well, this doesn’t look like a Hit-Man. not at all.
sooo i rename this guy to Bandit-Man. it fits more to this character.
( and if someone wants to make a real hitman, feel free )

im currently working on he’s cowboy boots, but its seems like no one cares…
C&C people. please.

Well, you asked for it so no complaining now…

Take a good long look at your character design. Picture him in your head. Now follow this link.
http://fenrir.finalfantasyq.com/mm/db/index.html

Does you character fit into this lineup or does he stick out? Not meaning to bash but I have a hard time imagining this guy in a Megaman stage, idling by his time until you make your way through the time freezing garage doors.

My first suggestion is to rework the face. Your nose seems too realistic for Megaman. Just thing Dragonball Z or Naruto in nose design and you should do fine here. Second, your eyes are a tad too realistic. Biggin em up a bit. And finally (for the head), the cybernetic eye seems just a tad too much. Out of Megaman’s entire history, only one villian did the eye thing and that was Pirate Man. Only one villian didn’t have matching eyes. It’s also the kind of detail your average gamer just cannot see. On screen, your entire head will be, at most, 64x64 pixels. Looks like you have at least that in the eye texture alone. The hat can be successfully incorporated unless you do a drastic design overhaul.

Now for the body, and this is where I get harsh. The first thing is the trenchcoat itself. One of the things I kept telling a friend of mine last time I tried to design a Megaman Villian roster with some friends was this. You’re thinking of “what’s cool” instead of “what’s Megaman.” Of Megaman’s history, only four characters had a draping like cloth and that’s Dr. Light, Dr. Wily, Dr. Cossack, and King Man. The trenchcoat seems a tad much and does a tell of a job of pulling your character away from the Megaman universe. I wish I had an easy solution on how to incorprate a trenchcoat design but it just seems out of place in the MM world. As for the weapon itself, I’d retool it. Try to look at character designs like Wolfwood from Trigun or Grave from Gungrave. Take that kind of weapon design and start “megapimping” it out by adding vents and thrusters and a stylized way of holding it.

I have a feeling, if you can nail the weapon to fit inside the Megaman Universe, your character design will just naturally adapt itself to the finalized weapon.

RuinedMessiah:
thank U so much for that comprehensive reply, i learned a lot about the megamen universe.
i tought its just about big hands, big eyes and big boots.

Swizzle and Chumble-spuzz already told me to redo the face (throw away the nose and hair) i did that already (bigger mask). i made bigger eyes since than ( btw i really want to keep that cyborg eye). and i said already that nothing is textured yet just the strange eye.
U’re absolultly right about the trenchcoat too. i show which character’s armour i thinking of: its contains some moving parts (see the pic) to create an illusion of a coat.
about weapon and style: yeah, this char i made varies from the other megamen, but its not finished. there are no details on it just rough shapes. i try to make it more megaman like, but my main goal to put a desperado’s style guy into the megaman universe, and that needs a lot of compromise. therefore i cannot change the weapon either ( i mean i can change the look of course, and i will, but it still has to be a recognizable guitar-case).
but, if U have better weapon idea tell me please.

thx again for the help, i really need it. thx.

Okay, this was done quickly… so it looks bad. But I was looking at some of the Megaman ZX suits…

And came up with this hastily built and detailed gun with scale given. I like the new approach with the coat though. And can’t blame you for keeping the Eye. Maybe you should play with making it larger or something along the lines of Deathlock or Kano.

And as I said, these are just my suggestions so if I come off as some super know it all, let me know.

#10

ruined, you gotta start using a different host bro, the pics aren’t showing up! :stuck_out_tongue:

#11

who do you suggest?

#12

well, i see the picture ( four little pics) but i dunno what should i see on them. which weapon U’re talking about RuinedMessiah? i can’t see any gun.

but anyway, here is a little update. its still not textured, just finished the legs and arms. i think it is the final mesh (if no one has any better idea), the details will be normal-mapped. i changed back the case, but its not final. so i still dont know what weapon to give to this crapy char.

(i’ve got a huuuuuge fish…)
