#23

hey Michael, its a friend just posting my surprise that you are so far along that your practically done. Coal Man is definatly cool and i cant wait to see the final render.

KEEP IT UP

#24

woot. update this weekend. thanks for the comments!!

#25

I feel this character is a real underdog of this challenege, I really like this one alot, and hope to see more updates soon

#26

tweaked the polygons. i’m pretty much exactly 8000 with all toys connected. Lots of stuff smoothed, even gave his jacket some more dimensionality along with the eyes and a string/chain for the monocle.

#27

That looks super awesome! I still think the knees are too low, though…

#28

Excelent design! The added geometry really helps

#29

HI, I love the concept drawing. The design is really solid and it’s a very interesting character. The integration of the 1800’s era industrial aristocrat and menacing robot is just spot on.

But i really think the 3D model loses a lot of what that drawing is about. The top heavy chest and coal chamber at the back look great but lose something in the translation to the 3D version. He seems a little less powerful and imposing now.

I would keep the chamber as an extension of his body, it just seems a little too “plopped on” as a coal cart and loses some of the robotic flavour of the concept sketch.

Again just try to keep more in line with your concept sketch and this will be such a great character. IMHO

#32

Yoo that looks awesome man cant wait to see it textured W2G man

#33

been dead for a bit, great stuffs. I’m uv mapping. >_< ugth tired.

#34

to get things done i stayed up till now, about 2;20 am. Uvmapped coal man, shall do simpler projection maps for the rest of the stuffs (the coal bin). yeah, i spent a lot of time ORGANIZING and making sire everything was nice and clean. I like clean, VERY VERY CLEAN MAPS. like for instance, i spiral in from the bottom left with the top of the head to the bottom of the body… that’s just how i organized it. hope i’m doing it right. there’s a few thigns i did overlap since i just wanted them twined. to photoshop!

#35

And clean they are! Well done, sir!

#36

COal Bin Done! For uv mapping that is. ROAR.

#37

um, i’m having trouble with the maps. my normal map is jacked. I’m getting weird mini versions of my character ON my map! anyone have a hint to why this is happening?

#38

Could you post the bad maps?

Usual suspects are mirrored geometry or projection issues (bad cage, etc)

#39

roar here’s the stuffs:

this is without the normal map applied. Painting tonight.

Shall be doing whorish updates as time goes by. May not have time to rig. Is that a problem? maybe i’ll do a SIMPLE rig in xsi… oh, everything done in xsi and photoshop cs2. Textures coming along to happiness!
