just reserving the space for now, concept to follow. ok I hope nobody has done this, but i’m making Hunterman. I want to make it next gen but still try and retain the look of the original, it’s going to be hard because I always saw the magaman x series as a more matured version of megaman, design-wise.
UGAC - Megaman - System404
There are, basically, four main art styles to Megaman. No matter what title, it all comes down into these four categories for the main characters.
-Megaman Classic. Best way to think of this genre is the undeniable fact that Megaman Classiv characters look like, for the most part, humans in really, really tacky outfits. Think of the power rangers when sticking to this design.
-Megaman X. Of all the megaman series, this one has the most robotic looking of characters. All the villians are pretty much humanoid animal robots and their design reflects this. No other series came as close to the “robot” look as the X series.
-Megaman Legends. Boxy stylized with massive mechanical elements such as screws, pistons, hydrolics. This design stands as the middle ground between classic and X.
-Battle Network. Best described as a much more “YuGiOh” stylization to classic Megaman designs. They seem like the “extreme anime” variants of X.
As long as you keep your design mind frame in the whole “that’s an incredibly stupid outfit for someone to wear” instead of the “create super cool badass” theme, you should have no issues.
…And yes, I am a huge Megaman fan. I’ve beaten every chapter, spin-off, and even imported Battle and Chase (although I DID regret it so that has to count for something…).
I hear you RuinedMessiah. I went ahead and based my design on the later “classic” megaman 7 games and tried from there to push the visual look ahead for next gen platform, while still retaining the obvious classic characteristics(big hands, big feets, the roundness of the edges) so here’s my attempt:

critique and comments are always welcomed!

Pretty sweet concept, there! I could see this easily fitting in with the later classic bosses. I’d suggest toning down the realistic muscle structure, though; the humerus and femur parts are generally just cylinders with no real muscle definition.
Not to say that you must, of course. ![]()
yeah i agree with you chumble-spuzz. I just wanted to be able to update the megaman style while still retaining the overall look. because we are going to be doing next gen I figured that maybe it was time to add a little bit more. ok I had to do this, if I have time left i want to do this
LOL’d
The next challenge should totally be to Chibi-ize our robots to PSP specs.
I just might do that anyway.
great concept indeed.
just love that style (your first sketch). is he having a loose hand on chain (something like scorpion in the mortal kombat)? how about a bow or spear tipe weapon, or a net-thing? im not sure why a hunter needs a shield.
(im sealed in my cliches i know.)
keep up the good work
Definitely liking this concept … hulking and imposing … And if I may be so bold, perhaps HunterMan and ThunderMan should at one point “have a scrap,” as they say.
Great stuff!
thanks for the comments!
yannes- yeah he’s hands on a chain, wanted to do something diferent than the plasma/energy/fire weapon(although a chained hand is not THAT diferent:D).
Hunterman needs a shield so he can repel megaman’s cannon weapon and he can smack you with it…
hordePrime- bring it on:buttrock:
“needs a shield so he can repel megaman’s cannon weapon and he can smack you with it…” - that makes sense. i just mentioned when i think of a hunter, i dont see a shield with him. but no doubts, its very usefull for a hunter too.
cant wait to see him more poses.
