UGAC – Megaman - Swizzle

#21

this is a cool concept. love the first concept you had with the thicker top, I think if the robot pieces could fit in this it would look great. the idea of having him progressivly get more damage and the robot parts showing up are awesome, hope you can pull it off

#22

Just a couple quick ideas slamming around mine noggin

#23

pic doesn’t work :frowning:

#24

Hmm, Geta-Ve’s right. I’m not seeing any picture.

#25

Had to pull the link out of the page source, it’s
http://ic3.deviantart.com/fs11/i/2006/254/b/7/mummy_sketches_by_sheppyboy2000.jpg

except it isn’t working for some reason even if I cut and paste it :\

DA doesn’t like hotlinking, try putting it on imageshack.com or something

Here we go, rehosted.

I like your thinkin’, RuinedMessiah. We’ll see what I come up with after that. I’m thinking I’ll do big thick bones, though not as thick as the wrapped arms, and I think I’m going to give this guy some sort of Egyptian jewelry like armbands and stuff. I’m also thinking there are going to be some sort of glowing orb things on his palms that he uses to raise mini-mummies and start sandstorms. You know - general purpose magic balls.

I’ll put up some updated sketches later tonight, and I’ll probably start the modeling stage later this week. Stay tuned.

#27

So, as promised, here’s a bit of an update. I didn’t get much time to work on it tonight, as is obvious, but I think you can see where this new version is going. I obviously need to make him look more robotic, and give him some accessories. I’ll try to come up with some good poses tomorrow or on Friday to show him off. I’m planning on adding a sort of orb in the middle of his chest and, as I said, one in each of his palms. He’ll use them for his varied nefarious doings.

#28

I’m really liking the legs shin part (fits the MM style), and I hope you keep the “bandaids falling off a bit” thing going on in the final. I hope you won’t add too much to him; looks pretty cool with a simple design.

#29

nice!
i really like where this concept heading! very brutal mummy U’ve got there.

#30

Ok, some more concept work. I’m slowly getting this design down, and I’m going to get it right if it kills me, dammit!

I’ve been playing around with the idea of orbs that will control his mini-mummies and stuff, but one guy on another forum suggested that the one on his chest be floating inside and actually a scarab instead of a ball. The idea was just too awesome to pass up.

(don’t pay much attention to the heads on the bottom, by the way, and forgive the crappy quality of the skeleton version)

#31

Hmm, I am not liking the energy blasts and such… I would stick with moves like him whipping mm with his cloth or something, and like sandstorms, and binding megaman with his clothe and then also hitting him with his sandstorms…

Or have him throw his hands down into the ground so that his cloth goes underground and shoots up like spikes out of the ground (something along the lines of Lurkers in StarCraft…

That is just my idea… energy beams in my opinion don’t fit his character…

#32

Actually, you’re right about the energy beams. But I had a pose and I didn’t feel like doing all the bandages that will actually be shooting out, so I added in an energy blast because I’m a geek.

#33

nice concept

I can’t for the final model
about his powers maybe he could
be able to constrict megaman in his badges and drain his power
another could be he can control the dead.
well I dunno jus throwing you some ideas
but it’s looking cool so far

#34

sorry didn’t read the previous post

sorry Geta-ve

#35

Don’t apologize bro  It’s all good!

#36

i dunno, the energy beam idea could work as well, though i think that wrapper attack would look cooler, though tougher to execute.

#37

Tougher to execute, yes, but infinitely cooler and more unique than a simple laser-type blast.

In other news, I’m going to start modeling today so I can get a better feel for how this guy’s going to work in 3D. I’ll do the bandaged version first. I plan on using about 3000 tris for the bandaged version and around 4000 for the skeletal one. That leaves a thousand tris for a mini-mummy, the hovering pyramid and the bandage attack. I think I can swing that. Maybe.

If these guys start to look too blocky, I’ll just do the half-bandaged version and use six or seven thousand tris for him and leave the rest for the mini-mummy and stuff.

#38

Well, I had liked the half bandaged version anyways. You could always start with the whole version, then every 1/4 life taken away rip away part of his bandages… like the hand, then the arm, then his leg, and finally his chest/head. That way you needn’t model much, but still get the feeling of roboty/skeletely/mummymy thing :stuck_out_tongue:

bah what do I know.

#39

The only problem with doing it that way would be that I’d either have to do a segmented character with a piece for the arm, a piece for the head, etc. I want him to have a smooth silhouette when he’s fully wrapped up, and segmenting him would detract from that. It’d also be harder to texture and would add to the poly count.

Here’s the current model after somewhere around an hour of work. I’m using the trial version of Modo 202. This is a beautiful program. I must have the full license.

#40

Great start so far! I don’t know anything about game mechanics, so I have no clue how this would work, but wouldn’t it be possible to just hide some polies when it is time for the character to be damaged? Like at 1/4 damage to him his hand polies disapear and the robot hand appears in place… and so forth for the rest.

No worries though, I shall leave it to you!
