UGAC – Megaman - Swizzle

#1

Name: Mummy Man
Powers:

[ul]
[li]Main attack: Shoots bandages from his hands that wrap the player up and trap him, then jumps in the air and stomps on the player.[/li][li]Secondary attack #1: Summons mini-mummies that swarm around and attack the player.[/li][li]Secondary attack #2: Summons a sand storm that wears the player’s health down.[/li][li]Mega attack (when he’s low on health or something typical like that): Summons blocks of stone that float in the air and build a flying pyramid which can smash the player or shoot a giant energy beam if the player is standing right below.[/li][/ul]Just think of how cool it would be, after you beat this guy, to be able to summon a giant pyramid that can smash the enemies in front of you.

Since this thread wouldn’t be interesting without pictures, here you go with some concept sketches:

I like the general shape remember though that all the megaman badies are robots. You could have this mummy wraped in linin wih some view of a robot parts that might be cool.

#3

I still have a lot of work to do on the design, obviously. I’ll probably do something like have one exposed robot hand, maybe some gaps in the bandages on his head, etc. I’m thinking of doing something kinda skeletal-looking for the robot under the bandages.

The big question, however, is why he’s wrapped up. I mean, he’s a robot, after all.

#4

Because he is from the desert! He keeps wrapped up to keep the sand out of his robotic parts. Love the concept thus far, more more! and I been meaning to say I love your avatar the most!

#5

Aha! That’s it, it’s to keep the sand out of his joints! And he just happens to be from Egypt. And stuff.

Okay, that’s lame. But it kind of works.

Anyways, here’s some more work on the concept. I used the nVidia .dds plugin to generate mipmaps for the image so I could quickly check the readabilty of the silhouette and overall design at different sizes. It’s looking fairly good.

(Darn Photobucket for resizing the image! Must find new image hosting!)

I still need to finalize the color scheme and stuff. Those balls on his shoulders are going to be hollow sort of shield things instead of actual balls. He’s going to have ball joints on the inside of the shoulder shields.

He’s just going to have one eye peeking out from under the bandages, and I think I might have some sort of skull-like teeth visible on the side where there’s a tear in the bandages.

#6

yeah!! that´s nice

#7

now that is looking sweet

#8

Well, I’m glad you guys like it. I’ll post another update on the design soon, probably later tonight. I still need to hash out the color scheme and think of a few good powers, though I do have some really interesting ideas as far as powers go. I need to look at pictures of some Egyptian sarcophagi and stuff so I can get a good feel for Egyptian colors and design.

#9

Okey dokey; here’s Mummy Man with updated shoulder armor. I’m just going to stick with these colors for now until I finalize the design. Any comments, critiques, whatever would be most helpful in making him look like something from Megaman.

#10

It’s coming along nicely but I think you need to add some vents or accesories to really make him fit in better, right now he is smooth and not very complicated.

#11

Ah, good call. I’ve been thinking about putting some Egyptian designs and paraphernalia on him somewhere, but the vents are a good idea. Wouldn’t want this guy overheating in the desert!

#12

the vents could double as a means of him whipping up a sandstorm as well.

groovy design! looking forward to seeing how this one comes along!

#13

i love Ur idea, its a perfect Megaman, but why did u change the look? the first sketches are waaay better than the latest one. (imho) im sure its not finished, and there will be a lot of changes and i know its Ur job, do as U think its better.

#14

You know, I like the earlier designs a bit better as well. The only problem was that they didn’t fit well at all with the Megaman aesthetic. I’d love to make the first design with the huge thick arms and tiny feet, and maybe I will in some other project, but it just doesn’t look anything like something you’d find in Megaman. Thus, the earlier versions are scrapped.

I’m still working on the design, as you know, so there are probably going to be a lot of changes still. Look for ornaments and amulets, sketches of the mini-mummies, and definitely larger shoulder pads.

#15

I really liked the first sketch of the Mummy fully wrapped. I would think that he might be an older Model robot raised from the dead… so he moves a little slower but hits with lots of force. The later sketches seem to lose some of the flavor of the earlier sketches. I think what is bugging me about the second set of sketches is the M/ double bump on the back. I am more of a fan of the flat back shape.

#16

keep up the great work man, btw to whome ever said it, I like the idea of the vents creating a sandstorm that is gold!

#17

to fit the Meagaman universe… i think the first sketches could make it. with bigger boots?
and i agree with Darksuit, maybe put lover hes shoulders -> flat back

#18

Well now, this is interesting. I was trying to make him look more like something from Megaman by exposing some robot-like parts and giving him the shoulder pads that most of the Megaman villains have, but in doing it I seem to have kind of ruined the design.

On the one hand I have the original overall design that doesn’t really fit in at all with Megaman, and I as well as everybody else like it the best. But on the other I have the newer design that looks a bit more like it belongs in the Megaman universe but it’s also admittedly kinda crappy.

Solution? Simple: Use elements of both and have him come unwrapped as he takes more damage.

#19

I think you’re in route with the partially unwrapped feature but retain the shape of the first few sketches. I’d almost play the Skull Aspect off a bit. If you want, I can throw down a couple quick sketches to show you what I’m talking about. I’m much better explaining with pens than I am words.

#20

Hey, some sketches would be great! I’m working on retooling the design right now, so your suggestions could only make it better.

As for this idea of the bandages coming off… I think I’m going to do three versions of this guy if I have the time. One version all bandaged up, one half-way revealed, and one all the way revealed. I may just do two, though–one fully bandaged and one only half revealed. I won’t really need to do the full reveal if you can see half of him and get a good impression of what he looks like underneath.
