UGAC - MegaMan - MrWinn

I am thinking I will go with… Porkman.

I’m still trying to figure out how to give him pig-like limbs/movement as well as making him a robot in the megaman style, but it should be fun to make once the concept is right :). One sketch I did gives him t-rex-like hind legs, it looks cool but probably -too- ridiculous even for pork man (2 sketches very rough right now, no scanner). On vacation for a week, so I’ll get the concept straightened out soon.

Question, I didn’t see this answered yet in the rules thread, but are normal maps required or optional? I’m guessing that those are the maximum technical specs, but it’s not clear. Normal maps seems like a little too much for megaman.

PorkMan is the best idea. Ever.

By the way, I’m guessing normal maps are optional–at least, it seems they would be. I think normal maps would actually be great for MegaMan in 3D because the character designs have a lot of roundness to them, and since robots are shiny, vertex shading will most likely highlight the mesh edges which doesn’t look good. But at 8000 tri’s, one might not notice anyhow. :\

I’d say normal maps should be based on the design itself. If you can make normal mapped creations without losing the cartoony style, go for it. But it’s a fine line and most people tend to overdo it than under.

I await a sketch design of the man of pork soon…:wise:

#5

cmon junior lets see some layouts

#6

Here are some ideas I drew up. Let me know what you think, what you like best, portions of one that look good and could be added to another, etc. Any suggestions or criticism are welcome.

Nice, I like that you’re looking into the delicious meats.

Dude, I reccommend checking out ToadMan, HardMan, and WoodMan for reference/inspiration; it seems to me that your starred thumbnail #1.5 is much in their vein…

Keep it up!

#8

yea give him a pork helmet !! LOL i agree to the thumbnail 1.5 looks to be promising

#9

I agree pork man does look best at version 1.5

also if you have his cannon shot the actual pig , that is just automatic WIN!

#10

Agreed, 1.5 looks the best. Since yours is an animal based robot master here are two examples that might help when you do your revision:

Just go crazy with pork man but remember the fundimentals :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: hehe

thanks chumble-spuzz, RuinedMessiah, boo, sef.
I appreciate the reference javier, in the ref images I had of those two, they were on all fours. Yeah as lighthearted as he is, I’m still trying to stick to the rules and the fundamentals of the megaman style. No pig cannon, that’s just silly :stuck_out_tongue:

#12

you weapon gain, ham?

haha

#13

I got started on the modeling. mostly just getting the shape of the body and the head. I’m just starting with the arms and the legs as you can see…just extruded the basics out to get an idea of how it looks as a whole. I havn’t decided what I’m doing with them yet, still experimenting on what looks best and is also robotically functional. I found that doing a paintover of a render in photoshop helps with figuring out the shapes and the details (image in bg).

#14

yeayy progress lookin sharp there mister Winn

#15

Face looks spot on, keep it up!

#16

lets go to my room pig!

Dude looks awesome so far, keep up the work!

before you do anything you need to scale the arm pieces bigger (forearms) and make the hands smaller, they have big forearm pieces not hands.

other than that AMAZING MODEL!

#19

Unfortunately, I did not have time to really do any texturing before the deadline :(. I just barely got him unwrapped and colored. I will finish him though, I like the way the mesh turned out and he needs to be seen the way he really should look…metal lines…rivets…more than a base color…the face fixed up with better eyes…colors on the arms…a solid color scheme…and maybe I’ll give him his metal sausage chain.
