Hello everyone!

Let me first say that some of you are truly awe inspiring artists. Seriously!

I’m an amateur film maker, and I’ve just stepped into the realm of green screening and wanted to begin constructing my own matte painting for large scale background replacement. I noticed that some simply use photoshop and others combine photoshop with 3D Max or C4D…anyone have any pointers on the best route to take to make a great composite?

Start simple, and check out some of the matte painting dvds from gnomon. You will learn the basics that way, but it will be a long road to creating photoreal matte paintings. If your interest is more in filming sequences, you may find the amount of practice to create good matte paintings frustrating, as it will take lots of time to create good mattes. However, if you are a talent with the camera, that will certainly help, so i dont want to discourage. Look forward to seeing your first efforts!

Thanks,
Nick
