Tyre Shader (maya)

#1

Im working on 2008 Camaro those days and Im almost finished, only remains put wheels to car. Modeling tyre and rim is done, I just dont know to create appropriate shader for tyre. All I tryed looks plastic and unnatural. I would like to reach result like this http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_studio_max/car_modeling_ford_mustang_fastback65/images/ford_mustang_modeling_06.jpg

I know, image above is made in 3DS Max and rendered via Vray (Im using Maya 09 and Mental Ray) but I believe there is way to make something similar. I dont want just to download some preset - I want to make him on my own, but need help with that… Which shader I should use ? Why ? What else (for example specular maps etc…) ?

Have you achieved any result? I’m tweaking the rubber preset in the mia_material.

not at all… I was asking on another forum and no answer, so I decided to use simply Lambert material… or blinn … but idea of rubber material sounds good, I will try. thanks.

Look in the cgcars. They have nice rubber textuures. I’m working in the shader, later if you want I can share with you.

You was right, looks much better with the rubber preset. I didnt mess around with settings yet, but when I will again work on another tyre (or car) I will try to pull out as best result as possible, than I can post here settings with a render pic.
