hellsgfx,

Hi there, welcome to the Anatomy Forum. First let me ask you, do you have basic familiarity with Photoshop?

Well, here are some really basic basics, I hope they help:

With your brush tool selected, you can choose from a default palette of hard and soft edged brushes.

Select a soft brush, for example. Use these shortcuts to change the size and softness of your brush:

Shift + [ will make your brush softer
Shift + ] will make your brush harder
[ will make your brush smaller
] will make your brush larger

[left]PS comes with a number of different brush sets. A good one to try is the Dry Media Brush set. You can approximate different media such as charcoal, pastel, etc. with these brushes. Experimentation is the best way to become familiar with these brushes.

[left]Personally I like to set my brush to the Airbrush setting (though you certainly don’t have to do the same). I also frequently paint at varying opacities and flow. Try 50% Opacity and 50% flow, but vary these settings just to find what works for you.

[left]Hope this helps a bit!

There are plenty of Tutorials here on the Forum. See this thread for links to the best Tutorials here on the Anatomy Forum:
