Trouble modeling this one

#1

So I am trying to model these headphones here. I have finished everything quite well, except for the earpieces. The cushions have a unique texture that is different from everything else. I am somewhat new to Maya still, and have not had something like this yet. The wrinkles especially seem troubling, no matter what I try. Your help is appreciated!

Torus shape with manual cuts and edges moved inwards to create the indentations, maybe throw on some kind of noise modifier to randomize shape. I’d also be tempted to try cloth sim just to see what kind of results i could get.

I agree here with using a torus shape. To create the creases, there’s some really easy techniques that work quite efficiently for such things. Select an edge, then extrude inward, with a very tight extrusion width. This will subdivide into a crease resembling the headphones.

If you’re using 3dsmax 2015, the new Quad Chamfer feature can be used for this as well. In other apps, it’s just an inward extrusion.
