.trc import problems - "The following files could not be read"

For some reason I half my motion capture data files (.trc format) won’t import into Motionbuilder, they produce the following message:

"The following files could not be read:

######.trc"

However, they haven’t been corrupted as I can still open it up in notepad and all the data is still there. Does anyone have any ideas?
