Transparency Render Error!!

#1

Hi all,

like to thanks proton for the pointers that he gave me, it helped me in creating a mountain with forest.

but the problem now is the rendering part. my trees are single polygon 2D textured, i used 1 jpg for the tree, and another alpha jpg for the transparency. after rendering, there seems to be artifact on the alpha part of the polygon.

how do i fix this?? is it because of my jpg? should i use tiff or other format to avoid this?

Thanks.

The artifacts might come from using jpeg as your image format. It’s a lossy format. It’s fine for your color map, but you might want to use something else…png, tga, even .gif for your alpha.

If you’re generating an alpha file from your jpeg, the artifacts will probably be perpetuated in any other image format you convert to, so beware.

Yeah, using JPG is usually a bad way to go, especially for alpha channels…

Many people are using PNG now as it will compress but it is lossless, so you won’t get those nasty compression artifacts.

I would also pay attention to the backdrop color you use in PS when creating the alpha.

if the problem really is the file type:

*.Png 32bit all the way!
-No data loss
-Great compression
-Alpha support
-No layers tough

thanks guys for your pointers, i finally found the culprit, it is actually the jpeg texture of the mountain that is causing the artifact, faulty jpeg file, not the alpha of the tree. Finally!! :stuck_out_tongue:
