Trackers?

#1

This might be a silly question, but how cn i view all trackers? I have four of them but i only see one at time.

#2

I typically attach each tracker to a null object then parent the null to whatever layer I’m matchmoving. That way, I can keep track of the track points visually by looking at the nulls, and it gives me a bit more flexibility, since I can easily refer to the null object in an expression.

#3

I use little solids to apply the track data to, and then I work with those.

#4

That’s essentially the same technique, except the solids take a bit more work to set up and manage. Nulls have the advantage of never being visible in the final render, so you never have to bother to turn off their visibility, though they’re not as easy to see as a solid. Also, the null’s anchor point is in the corner, which offers more precision than the default solid anchor point in the center. Though I have known some people to move the null object’s anchor to the center, anyway, since it makes more sense to them that way.

I’m not sure of the performance difference between nulls and solids, though I can’t help but think that After Effects is probably doing more work keeping track of actual pixels than it would simple location data. It may be negligible enough not to be concerned with, though.

If you use TrackerViz, which is designed around this little solid workflow, it makes all the little solids for you instantly, at a size preset you make, and will make them all automatically guide layers if you want. I’m personally not a fan of the corner anchor point on nulls.

But either way works fine.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is what i needed. But i have to say trackerViz is amazing, i just watched the tutorial. Is there a demo version or a trail we can download?

#7

Nice! I think I’ll give that a try. And the “pay what you think it’s worth” pricing is much appreciated, too. Thanks for sharing!

#8

TrackerViz is free, or, if you prefer, you can pay the recommended price Nab is asking for it. If you don’t want to pay, just change the price to $0 and you can still download it. No demo, just a full working script.

#9

Hey im using trackerViz and im getting all kinds of errors, and it’s not the same one as in the video. Shape to tracker isn’t there anymore, and im getting script error: undefined etc…?

#10

I’m at the point were i’m selecting Layers, track combine, keyframes, and i get an error: defined warning. Also half of the progress bar is filled up? Seems it has a lot of bugs so i have to default to nulls… Unless you can clear some of this up for us.

#11

Wow, that’s alot of little problems with it! Are you using at least version CS3 of AE, and the latest version of TrackerViz (from here: http://www.nabscripts.com/downloads_en.html , which is the same version thats on aescripts.com).

When you get an error, try saving your project, closing AE, reopening, and trying again.

Shape to Trackers isn’t there anymore? Like, its just not in the drop down? The new version of TrackerViz has some UI changes that I haven’t made a tutorial for yet, and one of them is if something is not applicable to what you are doing, it doesn’t give you the option. But the way said it, it sounds like its broken and just not there.

Can you post some screenshots of what you’re trying to do?
