WIP
Hello everyone , this is my first time on this forum so I’m very happy to join you, anyways,
Here is my shot brakedown, please don’t mind that I typed Shoot in the image instead of shot, hehehehe!! I just felt like shooting someone while I was working on this.
Basicly I first created the tornado particles in MAX,then the enviroment and trees in maya to finally composed it in AE CS3, and that’s it for the moment no fancy buildings or anything yet.
I wouldn’t call this the final version even though It looks like it, I’m still working on the grass and the tornado lights, I was also thinking about adding a Barn so when the tornado passes this can be nicely destroyed by it.

Here is the video file: http://johnpgiancarlo.cgsociety.org/gallery/657914/

CREDITS:
I like to thanks tornadovideos.net, Im using one of their videos audio as my audiomix and Allan Mckay for his great tutorials.
PD: I placed my shot as a Tribute cause I was using the day after tomorrow as my main reference but looks more like a Forensic type FX.

Cheers.
John Paul Giancarlo

really nice work man! hope you did this in your spare time and not BBfilm time :stuck_out_tongue: lol

#3

Thats really nice man! Well done!

Very good. But one thing that makes it unreal is that trees are bending very hard, but they don’t loose any leafs. Some leafes / branches sucked by tornado would make a difference.

Keep it up.

just had another look at the vid and agree with Wyszolmirski.
is the animation on all the trees the same just with the keys shifted around? some work on individual tree animation would push this a lot…and as Wyszolmirski said it would be cool to have some leaves/branchs go with it.
great stuff!

Hello everyone I update the secuence, I fixed the trees and added field grass, Im not totally convinced with the trees movement but I think that it works better than the first one, at least is not the same tree. if anyone have any idea on how to make work the paint effects turbulence so it looks more natural I will be glad to take the suggestion.

Here is the link to the new video:

By the way I deleted the first video by mistake sorry about that

PD: I also color corrected the image a bit, I saw an image in the Digital Arts magazine and loved the colors…

I´ll work on the rest next weekend I hope…

Cheers

Thanks for your comments

stop spamming

What do you mean?

If you don´t have anything to say about my tornado post is OK, just don´t forget what this forums are all about, and that is to share ideas and techniques, that´s why I posted in different Threads, if this is what you mean by spamming.

Thanks

lookin’ okay
couple things i think would help, the funnel itself is just a tad too soft looking, i think it needs just a tad more definition to make the profile pop out from the background

second would be the debris movement - looks way too slow in relation to the speed of the tornado

i’m really like the scene with the camera focus changing - really gives it a camcorder feel…

JohnPaulGiancarlo -> well, since you’ve posted so much posts like “this is great, tell me what do you think of my tornado”, I have only this to say :

Cheers

wow, whats all the controversy over.

Thanks for commenting on mine, i hhope i get it finished intime lol.

i only have a few crits, one was the tree animation being the same, but i think you changed that. I noticed a mirror in the background tree line texture. the tornado looked a little bit short and fat, but that could be the camera lense.

Overall its the most complete one on the forums. Looking nice.

This is coming along very nicely! I like the color correction and depth of field changes! Are you using after burn? I just got Allan McKay’s Dvd and I’m definately thinking of using after burn in my project. I’m completely new to particles and such so this will be a great learning expirence.

One thing that was fairly noticable on your video is that there is a halo type of effect around the rim of your tree leaves when ever they are infront of the tornado. I think that is because you did the trees and the tornado in different programs and composited them in After Effects. If this is the case perhaps you put some compression on your rendered tree footage which put some blur on the alpha channel thus causing this halo effect. If compression isnt the issue you could put a simple .5 pixel matte choker on the trees layer to help elimiate that. Its under Effects->Matte->Simple Choker. Hope this helps, looking forward to seeing what this looks like when done!

P.S. For future reference people dont typically like it when you post you work in their forums. I think its called “hijacking a thread”. Try to keep that to a minimum. That is why you are getting a few angry people replying to you. Perhaps you could post a link to you stuff if but dont put your own pics in their thread unless its to benefit them. I’m not flaming you just telling you why people are pissed. keep up the good work
