tools to filter MoCap curves

#1

Hi All
Are you aware of any fancy tools to help filtering dense motion capture animation curves?
Maya has only ‘simplify curve’ which is a little bit limited (Red9 package helps here).

For example, I’d like to find almost flat segments of curves and make it really flat, just two keys (I’m retargeting to a cartoony style characters).
Any suggestions are welcome

thanks !

You might want to take a look at our latest demo of the Red9 ProPack which ships with an in-built Butterworth filter, replicating the best moCap noise filter from MotionBuilder. Looking at your curve it looks like you’ve resampled data at a higher framerate but you also seem to have euler flipping going on

The problem with the Maya Simply as you’ve probably found out is that it’s not consistent, moving peaks around between curves and generally doing an “ok” ish job.

There is also a interactive curve filter in the StudioPack which you can download from the Exchange site through Maya although this runs the Simply call under the hood.

hope that helps
