Tools for making a crisp archimedian spiral?

#1

Has anyone seen any tool for easy creation of an archimedian spiral that is crisp and accurate, that can either be used as an image or a path in photoshop?

Any large and accurate image of such a spiral will also do nicely.

try Helix spline in 3D Max
easy and good controls given there
redner it out using renderable modifier

I dont have 3dsmax, but becoming a little inspired, I went from maya to photoshop.

  1. nurbs cylinder, 12 sections, 36 spans
  2. modify --> make live
  3. draw 3.deg spiral curve on nurbsobject
  4. use a deform --> lattice on object, and alter the cylinder to a cone form
  5. duplicate curve on surface
  6. flatten the new curve by moving the cv’s down to the same level
  7. expand curve outwards and inwards
  8. loft between inner and outer curve
  9. convert to polys
  10. use the psdPathExporterWin script
  11. import as paths in photohop
  12. fill paths didnt work, but stroke path did

Well, this was a bit laborious but I didnt have to draw any paths in photoshop.
