I am not sure, but as i can see visits and critics on this forums are to low(except few people who are on this forum on daily basis)
Also where are those challenges??

I guess the only answer to that is, people and other digimatte artist here and some other webpages are just pretty busy, yeah including me but I just have a few minutes every single day to drop by the forums hahahaha…
hey guys I understand your concern and believe me that we do what we can ,we both forum leaders are professional matte painters and this career is busy,
I try to answer posts everyday and just planning one challenge takes days and days to plan it, do it and finish it.
sometimes the community does not respond, like our last challenge the response was poor :(, anyway I will talk with the other forum leader to see if we can come up with something so the people get interested, and believe me that compared with other matte painting forums, this is the best and where you get a faster reply to what you post
so any suggestion would be cool !
I am so busy at the moment and finding time to contribute is nearly impossible. When the work is slack I am able to post often.

I know you are busy people, we all are. I see that there is allot people who are interested in matte painting, but still they don’t visit this forum, or any simmilar forums.
So maybe something like NVart challenges. Just a thougt, something that is more common in f.e. film industry like “invisible” matte paintings(forum leader could find 4k, or 2k photo with few builldings, and challenge would be to add one or two builldings + sky etc., to exactly mach original plate)
Nothing to “fancy” or “alien”

Mateja - I like the idea of invisible matte challenges. I think it might be good to hold off for a short while on challenges in this forum though, as the next FXWARS topic is rumored to be an Albert Whitlock tribute challenge, which i guess some ppl from this forum will want to get involved with. You dont want to end up with two challenges on the same forums that are competing for ppl to enter.
It does seem a bit of a shame that the forums are so quiet right now, but lets just hope its because everyone is off working on amazingly cool projects

You could head over to 3dtotal forums for a somewhat invisible Matte Painting challenge, I run one right now with a medieval theme (not trying to advertise lol, just giving a suggestion)
Long term, I guess the only solution is to have more mods…like 4-5. With all due respect to james and dave, but as they said they have tough jobs and can’t handle everything.

You’re quite right, matte painting does seem to fall close to the edge when it comes to community focus, though this is a community so we do welcome and encourage your thoughts and ideas on how we can bring life back into the forum. Challenges are one idea that can work very well, but take a lot of preperation, planning and communication with the powers that be and when the challenges dont receive a positive response, like the last challange this can have a knock on effect with future challenges; although when enough interest is shown, we will do what we can to make them happen.
If you have any ideas then please do share. Myself and Jaime are discussing the possbility of future challenges with emphesis on a practical and professional angle that educates and go a little further than a simple plate paint over.

I am so busy at the moment , which is a good thing however the last challenge became quite heavy and slowly burned itself out. Dave spent a long time preparing thee last one, using his own free time to get it together. Once bitten twice shy, as for the number of forum leaders it is a bit low, however my thoughts are that they should be open and have a proven track record in the industry and not be personality driven.
I like this forum and remember that matte painting is a niche field. The majority of working matte painters spend more time cleaning plates than creating space operas and tolkienesque vistas.
Some guys are just too busy too contribute. Many do not like to take there work home with them.
Also some artists are contractually tied against speaking about there work. I have recently got a Non disclosure contract which means I cannot speak about photography related matters without clearing it through my clients.
However hold on as the next twelve months are going to be pretty special for matte painters as various long job films are coming out which are going to blow your socks off, trust me I know 
As for the mentoring side of introducing matte painters into the forum and improving them artistically this is one of the best forums to be on. have patience and hopefully by summer there will be a challenge of sorts to work on. CG society has plenty of challenges with a sub prize for matte paintings, so there is always something for you to take part in. More importantly some of these are team challenges and the more you put into these as a team player the more you learn and create future contacts.

yes a new challenge would be cool, but nothing too ambitious though considering we are occupied with work and school and what not…
I think that is what this forum needs again to kickstart the posting fire.
