TMT - Traditional Media Thread

I talked to a couple of members on the board about doing a traditional media thread and see where it would go. At first, I thought it might be fun to have a theme every other day, which is entirely doable. However, it’s also cool just to post anything at random or of a specific interest.

Hopefully, for those who participate, we can have discussions and share ideas, as well as, tips and techniques.

Also, since it’s a traditional thread, there’s no concrete rule to digital touch-ups. I think they should be allowable, but minimized and mentioned with a possible explaination. In short, the goal is to improve one’s traditional skills as an artist and to share your progress with others.

“Tree Man”

2.5 hours, acrylic on multi-media paper.

Digital afterthoughts: the white stars in the background and darkened the vignette with an airbrush just a tad.

awesome daniel, and crazy fast…

the following is done in mixed media, with Gouache and inked over with a fine liner. i really need a different paper, since this one was way too thin and the structure of the paper gets damaged way too quickly when working with with very thin and watery colors.

shot them with my digicam, and the only digital handling they got afterwards was a sharpen filter.

jpedro - very cool :slight_smile: We share the same splatter technique. I actually use an old toothbrush for it, in any case, I like the accidental effect it produces. If you are interested dickblick.com has some good multi-media board, here’s a link http://www.dickblick.com/zz134/01/ . It’s very durable. Although, it has a little tooth to it, which has its advantages and disadvantages. The good thing, if you use your qouche or acrylic in a watercolor fashion the tooth helps create some subtle abstract designs; the bad, its a tad bumpy for detailed pencil work. All in all, I dig your work and hope to see more…awesome stuff!

Vyse-soa - Thanks! I appreciate it :slight_smile: On this piece, I used a lot of glazing to build up translucent layers which gives the illusion of depth. Having a hair dryer in one hand to dry the paint, also helps speed things up. Thanks again.
