TLHPro - WIP Thread

#221

No, haven’t had that. I wonder if it might have some relation to the auto-saving? That also occured when switching windows… might try de-activating it. Can’t hurt.

#222

That happens for me too, in dual and quad view modes.

#223

Ha! So far for the gremlins!
I will try out Davids idea now…

Edit: I don’t want to jump too early, but I actually think that could be it. Had no single jump yet.

What is Autosave doing then to cause all that weirdness?
May be time to implement a better Autosave anyway, with several versions in a project subfolder and no such bugs…

Great suggestion David  I wouldn’t have thought of that one ever. Sounds completely outlandish to me…

iso: could you try that too?

Thank you!

#224

I specialize in outlandish

#225

heheheh :applause:

#226

Wow, turning autosave off seems to fix it. Weird! But it works, so, good enough.

Thanks!

#227

No more jumps - I can’t believe it. 4 years of useless frustration because of a badly implemented thing not even distantly related to the problem OMG :banghead:  >LOL<

On the other hand, while this makes it at least usable, I still don’t like the interaction model…

But back to things I understand: Today I added some more stuff to the docs of TLHPro:ShowValues to hopefully make it even clearer as it was.
Then I started working on TLHPro:SplineCurve and realised that it was even more overdone than TLHPro: Distance. I removed all controls but 3 and now it is super easy to grasp and hasn’t lost any meaningful functionality - less is more in this case.
The docs on SplineCurve are also done, so I think wednesday or tuesday could be the final days of docs, only SuperStep, Thickness and Time are left to do now.
After that some corrections and finetuning, putting the tool on ShareIt and off you go…

Cheers and thanks again David!

#228

:drool::drool::drool: what can I say… :smiley:

#229

Well, maybe this is the tip-off Taron and the team need to fix it. We reported this a while back, but… better late than never.
Maybe they can tackle the interaction model at the same time. I’d like to see this improved as well.

#230

So better you report it. I’m too fed up to stay neutral.

#231

Hm - today I seem to get continuous crashes from the messiah gradient shader from just connecting anything to it…
Did you guys have any problems with that shader in 2.4b?

My debugger points me the the messiah.exe, not my plugins, so I can’t track down the bug…

Any ideas?

Cheers

#232

Thomas,

I’ve been using the gradient shader for my SSS tests and haven’t had any problems in 2,4 or 2.4b yet.

#233

Thanks rush.

I’ll have to investigate further - can’t get anything done with gradients currently.
There goes the time plan once more…

Edit: Maybe it has something to do with the ground plane? I can crash messiah from an empty scene, just connecting a gradient to the color of the ground surface of the camera…Boooom! ->Some kind of read error in memory.

That is after a fresh start and no other items in the scene…
Even if I remove all my own and other peoples custom plugins…

Done more tests:
Happens also with the Background…
Happens with every kind of object…
Just drag the connection from the Gradient color output to the input of a material color…

Maybe I should reinstall 2.4b… Argh :banghead:

Cheers

#234

Reinstalling from the latest installer on pmGs site fixed it. Go figure…
Well, where was I

Cheers!

#235

Just grit your teeth and count to 10 Thomas :stuck_out_tongue:

#236

OK, even with all the weirdness that sucked time and energy away, I’m on page 36 now, in the middle of TLHPro:Time. That one is pretty easy to grab I think, so I will not go into too much detail. TLHPro:SuperStep was also relatively simple (but not so easy to find good examples for) - only the gradients unkind misbehaviour killed the stride…

Let’s see what tomorrow brings, One and a half left to go where Thickness could turn out to be a bit more involved…

Cheers and good night!

#237

Well surprise, surprise, TLHPro:Time had some stuff unfinished that I must have just forgotten in 2004. And since those different Pulses and Intervals are hard to explain with pictures, I finally decided to do small videos for them. It is really cool hat you now can have video directly in InDesign and then export that to PDF and EMBED those videos!!! One single file and everything is there. Great. I hope you will like it too.

Has anyone any knowledge if it is possible to jump directly to a certain bookmark in a PDF from a help button in a software interface? If yes, I would much prefer using PDF over that messy .chm files. Best of both worlds that would be: Perfect printing and direct software interaction.

So I will tackle Thickness tomorrow. I hope there are no more surprises hidden in there. But at least Time is somehow much cooler than I thought. Time based, texturable effects on a per pixel basis should be a lot of fun. I have to try some stuff with displacements if I ever find the time.

Best regards,

#238

Wow, this is much better than I thought:

You can open a pdf file in Acrobat “Help mode”!
Same (if not better) functionality as in windows help + perfect printing and layout.
I even like those cute little video boxes that float on top of the window if you click on one of the thumbnails

And sure you can open that same pdf in standard Acrobat view too.

Now I just have to find out how to start this from within messiah and we have the best of all worlds! (but only after the release in a second step)

Cheers,

#239

Wow - those look fantastic.
Nice work, and looking forward to the shaders.

after completed this manual you could continue with the messiah:studio manual.
