is it a boring picture maybe? Not enough emotional response to it?

No one has anything to say?

The rendering is done to a really fine finish; but despite that, the shape of the head feels a bit flat. I’m not really feeling the volume of the shoulder, either. The way the strap wraps around the collar bone doesn’t give me the illusion of depth… it just sort of reaches a point at the top of the trapezius and disappears.

These things in general make the figure seem flat. A constructional approach where you lay out the shapes as 3D (using perspective, simple perspective a/la Scott Robertson) would help.

thanks. yeah I can work with that.

As with so much digital art, people have a tendency to gum up the image by going too stark black with the shadowing, which is the case here. It’s especially unflattering on most light animal fur. The shadows should be richer, not an unsaturated, almost hueless black. You might want to throw some blue in the shaded areas of the armor, too. It might sound schtick but unfortunately this style of cartoon art will trap you into making some pretty gimmicky choices, to make it work.
The tuft of fur at the base of the thumb makes the hand look cropped and out of place with the wrist. The leather part of the arm band looks very flat as well.
The tree covered mountain can go greener (again less stark black in the shade) and paler to emphasize atmospheric perspective, as you already have a mist in the bg.
