The things we have to put up with...

…as EIAS users, that is. If you’ve got any stories, share them.

I just showed my Kitty animation to the editor here at work.

Him: “Cool, how did you do that?”
Me: “On my computer, at home”
Him: “No, I mean which package did you use? Maya?”
Me: “(sigh)No. It’s called Electric Image Animation System.”
Him: “Oh, so it’s not, like, computer graphics then?”
Me: “…”

heheh, I know the feeling…

We had one recently when a FormZ freelancer came to work for us…

Him: So what 3D program do you use?
Me: Electric Image, come round here and I’ll show you.
>> He comes round to my desk
Me: It’s really easy to use, ultra fast and the image quality is breathtaking.
Him: But it’s… purple.

And there you have it folks,

I create this myself…

him: wow! nice, how do you create it!
me: Electricimage!
him: wow! another great product from Softimage?

Yes, I get this a lot.

When asked what 3D app I use, I say “Electricimage” and their eyes glaze over as if they can’t comprehend I use any other package other than the “professional” ones.

Some users who used to use EIAS in the mid 90s (but have since moved on to the “professional” packages in the late 90s) laugh when I say I still use EIAS. “That’s so out of date. Isn’t it dead yet?” they say. They can’t image EIAS existing beyond version 2.7.

General comments i get from non-EI users - “wow its so realistic - how did you do it”, often respond with some technical comment on the technique… don’t even bother saying its ElectricImage a lot of times.

When a Agency ask me which appl. I use to do my work and I say Electricimage, they ask like “wow, Tomas have a custom animation software…”
When my Maya professional friends ask me… “is Tomas a Gladiator?.. hahaha”

I was taking an AutoCAD class (failing to learn NURBS modeling) and I told the instructor I used Electric Image.

He replied “I’ve heard of them. They’re French aren’t they?”

I took a break (2 months) down here in Orlando Florida (near family) after 6 years Senior Creative at Fox Chicago. I’ve just started a pretty aggressive national ‘job search’ for wherever I may land, and I would guesstimate maybe 30-40% of the jobs that, in description of duties, I fit perfectly, that I cant apply for because they SPECIFY C4D or lightwave experience as necessary. I send my reel anyway and get great response but who knows how many jobs I am ‘ruled out of’ because I dont know lame lightwave or CinemaDorKee.

Creatives are more understanding of the fact that these are tools, human resource people in charge of ‘weeding out’ candidates dont give a crap what EI can do, its NOT what they are looking for.

Thats why my #3 request for EI is an ad campaign on how EI Blows away lightwave and C4d
for Broadcast Design and animation. If EI wants, I will write and illustrate the ad myself!!!

We definately need better name recognition. I love EI so I hope for the best with these new
‘changes’

GOD I WISH APPLE BOUGHT THEM OUT! 3d would fill out their offerings.
