The Setup Machine for Games released

#1

I know we’ve been keeping this one under our hat a bit, but I’ve had so many experiences announcing a release date for a product and turning out to be drastically wrong that I promised not to talk about this one till it was actually released.

And now it has been! The Setup Machine for Games generates a rig that’s very similar to the TSM2 rig, but easily bakes down for export to a game engine. Baked animation from TSMG can be used in any engine that supports both joint translation and rotation, and can accept FBX or export from Maya in some other manner.

It also has a few features that TSM2 doesn’t, like the ability to restore a rig to the widget stage at any time, make changes to the rig layout, and then re-rig while maintaining all your weight painting.

We’ve also paid a bit more attention to using mocap data this time around, and include a script that lets you slave the TSMG rig to an equivilant FBIK rig, and then bake that motion to the TSMG controls.

TSMG was intended primarily as a tool for game characters, but there’s no reason you couldn’t use it as a general-purpose auto-rig tool as well. We’d love to get feedback on any other tools people would like to see in a rigging tool for engines.

Awesome stuff  TSM has always been a great timesaver. Great to see a Games version! Especially loving the ‘restore a rig to the widget stage’. Hopefully this will get rolled into regular TSM!
