The next Challenge...Lets talk

#41

Anyone up for putting Robotech on the list. That was a great cartoon

#42

Action Figure, eh? Let’s get to the details! Though, 80s not seem hardcore enough(boring shapes, at least for me). What about 90s? Or no time range at all. I don’t want to affect anything though, if it is decided then okay.

#43

Robotech is in…
and 90’s cartoons(Batman, Samurai Cats, Aeon Flux, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck) will be a future challenge…

#44

Ugh, I remember that Ghostbusters. I remember going “Who the heck are these guys?!?” Lol, it’s 80’s.

Thundar the Barbarian - Surely someone will want to do Ugla the Mock.
Johnny Quest - May have been 70’s but its real close.
Batman the Animated Series is definetely 90’s but man what a groundbreaking cartoon.

Anyway, I was going to skip the next HMC because I had a project I was going to work on. Who would’ve guessed that project would fit perfectly in this challenge so I guess I’m in… yet again.

#45

Okay, that’s fair… it going to be tough not to model one now that the idea has been planted! Actually it’s probably for the best, don’t really have the time for the challenge right now anyways.

#46

This is a fantastic idea! I’ve been looking for a good excuse to model something up, and this is perfect.

Johnny Quest was actually 60’s  Thundarr -definately- fits. There’s a ton of potential in that one.
Here are a couple more that I think fit :
SpaceGhost
Gobots

And to be clear, anything that is a spin-off does not qualify, correct? So no Superfriends, as an example (Superman being a cartoon from an earlier period).

#47

ACTION FIGURE , i’m in for that, lets go hardcore, Lots of skin shading, hair, believability maybe, anatomy, zbrush, mudbox millions of polys… ow boy…im wetting myself;)

#48

Forgive a question from a newbie (I’m pretty unfamiliar with the standards for this mini-challenge).

Does including skin shaders and/or ZBrush or Mudbox distract from the nature of the challenge to excel in pure modeling?

#49

Yeah. Aren’t cartoons stylised rather than detailed?

#50

This is an ongoing debate feyshtey. The shaders, textures, hair shaders etc aren’t supposed to enter into judging the final entries. It’s not against the rules to texture your model though. As for ZBrush and Mudbox, sculpting is part of the process now.

#51

i bags doing dragonball/dragonball z

i think the goku vs vegeta fight took place during the 80’s…

yep just checked…an episode titled goku vs. vegeta (episode 30) aired on december 13th 1989…

i’m so doing a diorama of that…

#52

robo3687 : Just make sure your models are over 9000… polygons.

#53

heh…i’m sure they will be…

#54

I’m quite new to 3d modelling and I’ve been wanting to join my first challenge for a few months, but have been putting it off so i could concentrate on my final year project for uni, but this challenge might just be too tempting…hmm. Although the first thing that popped into my head was dragonball, and seems its been shotgunned already :frowning:

Whats the time limit likely to be on this challenge??

#55

~1 month usually. This challenge ran long due to Christmas throwing everything off.

Roberto, question about the action figure statement. That is just a category right, because I’m planning something realistic?

#56

Yes, its just too tempting, i’m in
Shotgun ‘Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors’ (if it’s eligible for the list) first aired the year i was born, good old 1985

#57

yeh i think it’ll just be a category…

#58

it is just a category,
you ma do a “realistic” model too.

#59

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

#60

Ah! Technically Roger is an 80s character! Sounds good man.
