The next Challenge...Lets talk

Ok in order to keep our sanity we have to do a master list of what would be kosher…

Disney:
[ul]
[li]DuckTales[/li][li]Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers[/li][li]Gummi Bears[/li][li]The Wuzzles[/li][/ul]Filmation:
[ul]
[li]He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Video:Link)[/li][li]She-Ra: Princess of Power
[/li][li]Bravestarr (Video: link)[/li][/ul]Hasbro:
[ul]
[li]G.I. Joe (Video: Link)[/li][li]M.A.S.K. (Video: link)[/li][li]Jem (TV series) (Video:Link)[/li][li]Visionaries (Video:link)[/li][/ul]Misc
[ul]
[li]Dangermouse (Video:link)[/li][li]Voltron[/li][li]Mighty Orbots (Video: Link)[/li][li]Galaxy Ranger (Video:Link)[/li][li]Pole position[/li][li]Ulysses 31[/li][li]The Smurfs[/li][li]Muppet Babies[/li][li]Inspector Gadget[/li][li]Galaxy High School (Video:Link)[/li][li]Dungeons & Dragons b[/color][/b][/li][li]The Real Ghostbusters (Video:Link)[/li][li]Silverhawks[/li][li]ThunderCats (Video: Link)[/li][li]TigerSharks[/li][/ul]Transformers would be OFF Limits and I am on the fence on Ghostbusters.

i like the idea of the 80’s cartoon challenge…

would they be models accurate to the cartoon or real life interpretations of the characters? or both?

i guess its a smart decision keep transformers out…otherwise everyone would do them…maybe save them for another challenge

but yeah…my votes in for 80’s cartoon tribute

EDIT: oh and add captain planet to the list of cartoons…i think that was the 80’s…man i loved that show

EDIT2: my mistake…it was 90’s…

this link should be handy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1980s_American_animated_television_series

just realised dragonball z could be counted in this as it started in 89…woop

I just realised the irony of dangermouse not wanting to do dangermouse…

I agree with not having tranformers, a saying about beating something with a stick comes to mind, but style wise, I repeat robo’s question, are we going for accurate, realistic, what? I’m a tiny bit worried about my voltron looking like yet another modern transformers ripoff.

I don’t know if I can explain it very well, but I’m thinking a hybrid style where it’s built exactly as it was originally designed(like without extra pipes, wires, eye filanges and crap), but with realistic detail like chips and dirt… hmm, i dunno…

#24

I like the 80’s cartoon challenge idea, I’d definitely be up for that.
In terms of ideas, how about an MC Escher Tribute?

P.S. Jem? That is truly outrageous.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP4u4I96DVQ it’s not strictly related, but funny and kind of relevant

#25

Roberto, you are the man!

…and thanks for putting BraveStarr into the list - you read my mind!

#26

Sounds like a great one! I’m just a few years too young to remember any of these cartoons. My memory is of early 90s. Perhaps the theme could be “Your childhood cartoons?”, instead of a specific era?

Samurai Pizza Cats anyone?

#27

Dam, I’m too old for 80’s cartoons hardly know any of them!
Any chance of ‘pre 90’s’ cartoons? Wacky Racers would fit in then.

#28

I remember the Samurai Pizza Cats!! those would be awesome in 3D!!

Besides that I think only the Thundercats and He-Man could be my choices, maybe the Silverhawks, but I never really liked those. =P.

This one is a great idea! I cant wait to see some of these cartoons in 3D.

#29

I recon ghostbusters should have been added, the more the merrier. Its too bad Aeon Flux came out 2 years too late to be added, that would have been cool.

#30

If the '80s cartoon idea is chosen for the next competition, I might have to go from an observer who just sat on the sidelines and watched these competitions to being a participant. Just too many great characters and ideas with that topic to not join in.

More shows for the list:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Darkwing Duck
Pound Puppies
Rainbow Bright
The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (not original 80s characters, but they had a show in the 80s)

#31

Just FYI

http://www.80scartoons.net/toons/index.html

Alice in Wonderland, anyone? And, zomg, the Centurians. And Captain N: The Game Master =P

Yeah, I might have to do this one, too!

#32

just re-watching some samurai pizza cats, you could have some real fun modelling them them in their battle ready suits…

this competition is made of awesome, i cant even decide what id do…

#33

So is this a done deal roberto ? is this officially the next challenge or just an over excited discussion ?

#34

Funny how I had this hard core classic sculpture challenge in mind,
and all of the sudden Boone blows it out of the water with his
GREAT idea.

Yes this will be the next challenge.
And since a lot of these characters had action figure lines,
I will add a category for:
Best Action Figure…

BTW
Tennage Mutant Nibja Turtles are in

#35

OK, well being of the older generation most 80’s cartoons happened in my later teens so TBH most of them are a bit lost on me.
But i feel a DM and Penfold coming along to tempt me …

#36

RobertoOrtiz, for the sake of simjoy and others, how about 80’s remakes? there were quite a few really good 60’s cartoons, like the jetsons (how cool would that be!) that got an 80’s remake…

just a thought…

edit: just realised i may have inadvertently been insulting there, if so, i apologise!

#37

I think we can fit one more 80’s cartoon to that list, and its one that I had convinced myself that I imagined it…

THUNDERBIRDS 2086

…its real! A japanese anime version of the Gerry Anderson 60’s show!:bounce:

#38

best action figure sounds like an awesome category for the challenge…it’ll give us a chance to one up the dodgy figures from the 80’s…lol

argh…so…many…ideas…

#39

:surprised im not THAT old .!!!

70’s would be fine …

anyway, its maybe opening a whole big can of worms if you start allowing remakes of all sorts of cartoon series. If we stick to shows CREATED, not re run, in the 1980’s, then its a fairly level field.
like everything else it only requires a bit of research to find enough info to work with, even if you dont know the subject well.

obviously the fanboys will put more enthusiasm into it though …

Anyone remember "The Ghostbusters "? It’s a different ghostbusters than most people know. Is that an acceptable cartoon?
