firstly i am very new to this challenge, and it is just a great forum to learn and grow. the very fact that we could see high quality work from the professionals to name few like intervain, brettsinclair and many more right from the scratch. for me participation and learn is most rewarding thing i could acheive.

robertoOrtiz u doin great job:thumbsup:

I’m a hobbyist, I would like to one day make my living as an artist, to actually see the work flow between artists in a studio but for now I can’t afford that career path.

I would say the most challenging part of this challenge has been staying motivated. Coming up with the idea is always the quick fun part. Executing that idea is not so easy. Though the truth is I’m just not feeling it this time. I can’t say why I’m just not as into this challenge as ones in the past. Probably just a little burn-out, work has been so busy all I want to do when I get home is water the garden and play some games.

As for future challenges, how about if we don’t start naming topics since there are plenty of those already. Instead I’d like to see topics that keep pushing my skill set and help me improve. Though it might be more difficult I really enjoy trying master copies of classical sculptures.

Who knows, 3 weeks left I may still be able to pull this one off.

Not having much fun but keeping busy at a pretty slow uninspired rate.

Nice to see the pros do their thing and taking part on the HARDCORE CHALLENGE.
Also a lot of thinking and working out potential workflows for Cg stuff and limited processing power.

Personally I haven’t had a gf in a long time and drawing feels like a funeral march.
Also out of work with recession and doing much sacrifice.
My PC goes all the way back to 2001 LOL

Wyatt amazing how married people like you also lacking motivation.

Have done graphics professionally in the past and currently looking.
Out of three careers I choose art or illustration over the others anytime.
Personal crisis aside, this challenge is called hardcore and I wouldn’t think it for no reason.

I always like to see movie inspired themes, but staying open to anything the Society
may want to throw at us.

I can certainly sympathize with those lacking motivation or inspiration. It can certainly be difficult. That being said, I’ve really enjoyed my time on this challenge so far. Given, it’s my first challenge so maybe I’m just not burned out yet. I do 3D everyday for NIH and feel burned out sometimes, but this has worked out perfectly for me. Literally the same week that this challenge was announced, I met with some folks at the animal research facility about doing some real time facial recognition stuff in 3D for them. So I’ve actually had the luxury of doing some of this challenge at work so I really can’t complain at all.

As for future challenges, that’s a really tough one, I’ve really enjoyed watching these challenges in the past but this is my first so I feel like I can only give my 2 cents on what I like watching. I love the re-imaginings of familiar subjects such as star wars steam punk or the 80’s tribute. But really, I feel like every potential challenge has it’s merits. I know there are probably over a thousand suggestions floating around so I won’t bog this down with even more, well, maybe one just because I think it would be lots of fun. The only thing I’ve thought of would be to do 3D realizations of those old weird illustrations of sea creatures when people let their imaginations run wild. A lot of these were very detailed almost to the point of scientific renderings.

Anyway, great job Roberto, this has always been and will continue to be my favorite thing to watch on cgtalk.

Good day everyone.

My name is Joel Appugliese (pronounced apple-lazy). I was born in, and currently live in Montreal, Canada. I am an amateur CG artist, and I participate in these HMC’s because I am looking to gain experience in order to break into the work force. Montreal is saturated with cg artists at the moment, and I am not in a position to displace to another city, so Thank you to HMC for providing me with the opportunity to improve.

I fist discovered CG about 5 years ago and was instantly hooked, dropped my previous profession (Chef), went to school ( a bad one, unfortunately), and devoted myself to becoming a full time cg artist. I currently work the graveyard shift at the reception at a Hotel. It is very dead at night. I have a portable harddrive with my software installed on it. I bring this harddrive to work and model/sculpt for most of the night, every night.

The most challenging part of these CG challenges for me is organization. I get great ideas ( I think) but when it comes time to execute, I have a hard time getting everything together BEFORE starting. I am always so eager to get into zbrush

What would I like from these challenges?

I would like to do a challenge where EVERYONE is required to model the same thing. Whether it’s a character, a clasic sculpture or painting, a vehicle, it doesn’t matter. But it would be nice to do a challenge like this. It would give us a really good feel for where our skills are in relation to others, and also help with the execution when you can see in near real time how others achieve the result that you yourself are trying to achieve.

Everone loves to get motivate & to be engage in likeable work.
But in this mechanical life, this are not so easy things to set as our default.

This type of challenge gives us additional time so meaningful relate to our job profile/hobby.
(apart from routine overtime office work).

Getting connect with world class artists suggestions/motivation are most likeable part in this challenge. Our lazy part of mind also getting refresh & tune.

I like to see upcomming challenges in topics of

(1) Cartoon from current affairs.
(2) Simulation of happenings (Cycle Of Baby Birth, Before/After Accidents, even it may be normal life styles)
(3) Caricature of celeberaties.
(4) New Ideas (sur realism, creatings character models with profile of text/words/sentence)

Roberto Ortiz, keep it up & up.

I have in mind a future challenge is mind that involves only ONE model…
And it will be an architectural model.
Hell it might be so detailed that some machines might not be able to handle it.

Ooooo, scary! Bring it on.

Hehe, well you need to understand the context. What I mean is between my 2 massive gardens, 6 acres of land to tend, full-time job oh and the wife and kids, this project is getting pushed way to the back burner. Right now when I have a free moment I just want a game or a movie to entertain me and not have to think. Good news, almost time to harvest the corn, should end up with about 50 ears this planting.
