The GREATEST CG WORK I HAVE EVER *SEEN*!
You know, I just gotta ask. Are you trolling? The more I see you post, the more this question pops up.
No offense intended, I’m just curious.
If you’re serious, you need to see a lot more CG videos. For a moment I though this was a joke, like student bizarre video just for the fun of it, and then I saw it was official Bjork’s youtube channel.
Er - no, I’m not even sure of the exact definition of “troll”, don’t think that’s what I’m doing tho
What about my posts makes you think that? I can’t like a Bjork video?
For my part, I don’t think that it’s particularly terrible. It just has all of the hallmarks of early/mid `00s CG. Not terrible. Just pretty tech demo-y. I’ve seen much better.
I think JW is pointing out something relevant about your posts. It does not seem like you provide much information in new topics about what you are posting, the “why”, along with not doing much research on the subject, which comes across as making assumptions. The all caps do not help, if you want to be taken seriously, in many cases. This post in particular is more opinion based.
I do agree, in many ways its an amazing music video, her pieces come across as more “high art” with many undertones. I would not say its amazing quality cg, but the overall execution as a final piece is. Technically its very straight forward. Funny enough I recently worked with a top of the charts band to produce visuals and they referenced this video in particular as a piece they loved.
I am not sure if anyone else noticed, but most 3D in the fine arts/high arts realm and not monsters and explosions, tends to look technically not that great, but there is an overall message and the final execution comes out somewhat impressive. This happens in traditional fine art, less photo real pieces, they may not be perfect looking, but they can convey strong messages or the final piece as a whole, not technically, overall can be very impressive.
Whether that’s accurate or not, it’s the sort of thing that can be corrected or kept in mind for future posts. In general, iamhereintheworld is enthusiastic and happy to be here. I appreciate that. I think that he could contribute a lot to this community going forward. CG Talk could use his sort of … pep.
I’ll take overly enthusiastic and raw over jaded and obnoxious any day. (Not speaking of any one person, btw.) That other stuff… Kinks to be worked out.
Yes, that is EXACTLY what I meant
But I would be Very Curious to know how it was done - is it programmed animation??? I don’t think THAT could have been done “by hand”…? Could you explain please? (Is it like, a “MaxScript”?)
Thanks,…I guess
Please note that I DON’T CURRENTLY WORK IN CG, as I’ve stated before over here. But I have not LOST my interest in it, and I’m spending time “hanging around the scene”, maybe to make a re-entry someday - it’s still very much within my “field-of-vision”
Funny, I actually broke the possible process for this video down to a client who liked it. While there are many ways to do things in CG, the simplest way to do this are blend shapes or texture displacements driven by a simple noise. No additional programming needed. Blend shapes and bones have been around since the dawn of maya, and 3d animation, it can be found in any 3d app that lets you animate/rig, lightwave, modo , max, xsi, etc.
BUT, in this case its being used in an abstract way, just pushed and morphed around…and what would normally be considered breaking it, with intersections. Aside from that, a mix of procedural texturing and strands and instancing. To many 3D artists, things appear to be technically breaking, but this video is not worried about those technicalities, its more about the overall effect. Again, that is a straight forward way, you can go simple blend shapes, or more complex houdini setup, with animation being driving by motion etc, but no real reason to do that in this case.
Hmm - I basically have no idea what you said
…but could you please tell me, short answer: Is this possible in Blender 2.8?? If it IS, then I gotta learn more about this stuff! I’ll Google what you said above sometime. (Is a “blend shape” anything related to morphing?)
Yes, blend shapes/morphs are a very basic feature in any 3D content creation tool that supports deformation animation. Blender has it, they label it as “shape keys” it seems. You can even fake it in 3D apps that do not support deformation animation, you just have to experiment. Why wait to start learning it, there seems to be tons of free tutorials online, and it will demystify vfx.
Ummm…not interested at the current moment, but I’ll try and look into it sometime
Thanks
