THE GABRIEL STRAIN -- Scifi Collab

#141

Hey boob  (love the name btw heheheh)

Whelp, apparently I’m gonna be doing the dropship, and the sequence for the teaser, or whatever it is. Look in from time to time - this is a DIFFICULT ship to make, VERY organic.

#142

P.S. i don’t want to seem annoying, but do we have a website for our project?

#143

I believe it has one, but it’s undergoing a build.

#144

Yes the website is is getting a revamp.
And Since we have a couple new team members we will have a team
meeting soon to explain what we are up to and what the goals are.

I will be doing a spacesuit and some concept desings for buildings.

Hello all,

Ok, we’re getting more people involved now, and that’s fantastic!

Because of the numerous new people sending me PMs and messages, I’d like to ask that everybody ā€˜sound off’ by sending an email to aje@thegabrielstrain.com with the following info:

1)CGTalk name
2)Real Name
3)Your 3D Software (please be advised that this project uses Lightwave and Maya primarily)
4)What you wish to do on the project
5)A working link to samples of your work (do not email the samples, the link will be fine. If you don’t have anything online, tell me and we’ll arrange another way for us to see your porfolio)
6)the country that you’re in (so we know for communication purposes)
7)how much time can you devote each week to the project

Background anti-aircraft gun placement particle setup:

Hey guys, setting up the dropship fly in sequence as it approches it’s LZ anti-aircraft guns can be seen in view trying to take out fighters which are swarming over the area  Just thought I would give you guys a little preview. Obviously I need to fix materials, glows and such - but it’s a start!

Looks like a good start admiral.

Here’s a peek at another tank (W.I.P.)…

#152

admiraligor - Looking good mate I see where your trying to go with that. Cant wait to see how that turns out with a little comp work put into it :).

AJE: Nice start on the tank and pre-viz shot. I was wondering how in the heck that thing was holding itself up until I say the ā€œAnti Gravity Driveā€ :scream: . To drive that point home will it emit some type of light/energy source underneath?

#153

i haven’t been able to do much work on the scout ship, but i’m currently doing concept art, storyboarding, as well as acting in a movie called FAYT, its taken most of my time, but as soo as i get a chance i’ll update my model, oh by the way do we have a updated roll of people on this project, and can someone get a hard script out please, because i’m running blind, as well as some other people i’m guessing. Later guys

#154

Dear Yasko… as rude as it sounds

Every one knows his task.
And once that task is done a new one will pop up.

The story outline can be found on page one and we don’t need a script just yet since we don’t even have the props done yet.
This project does seem to move a bit slow but AJE and me are busy doing our day jobs aswell.
Perhaps a status from everyone would be nice.

Cheers

#155

Kid Mesh/AJE - Ha I was thinking the same thing Kid Mesh was thinking till I saw the same drive. Great concept to model reconstruction!

#156

hey everyone
well looks like u guys r doing well
shame i dont have more time to help

something about the legs strikes me as odd
they seem to be a little out of the technology range
they can float in the air but have trouble with recoil
u dont have to listen to me if u dont want
just an opinion
maybe i short jet burst when firing would make more sense
also it seems that the legs would make it loose balance
maybe it should have a counter weight on the front
hope im of any help

#157

Nice work on this collab. Been looking through the thread and I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

#158

Good day,

now that maya is with max i may suggest you employ the use of max in your project because i see a very good story but you will be limiting some posibilities with the restriction of sofwares like max.

basically i’d like to come in but you’ve practically flushed me off the track

can i still b a team? i’m an african to b precise a nigerian, anything for me?

#159

max’s restritions are no more nor less than any other software package out there. It is COMPLETELY able to be used for ANYTHING givin you have the right knowlegde. Max’s UVW system is very nice, just takes getting used to. Just like Lightwave’s or Mayas. So Stop being so god damned close minded!

#160

waydorr,

Thanks for your interest, please read below…

admiraligor,

I think you misunderstand me…

It’s not that we don’t think Max can deliver great results, I personally think it can.

There are factors within this project that have not been made public that suggest bringing Max into the pipeline isn’t necessary/wouldn’t be a benefit at this time.

We’re not being close minded, in fact quite the opposite. We have the benefit of the broader picture.

Besides that, you’ve come to a project development thread, started by guys who work professionally in LW and Maya. One of the reasons that this project is a LW/Maya one is that our professional work (meaning our support lines outside of the project) allows us better access to professional people that we know and trust.

I don’t mean to offend, but would you consider dropping Max and learning Maya or LW? Of course not. I understand that there are many talented Max artists out there, and I don’t think it’s ā€œsnobbishā€ to say that we don’t have a place for them beyond concept art at this time.

One of the reasons for this project is for us to learn our chosen apps better in a fun creative environment.

Max is a good program, but like I say, there are reasons beyond what I’ve stated for our decisions, and we stand by them.

I’m not interested in a app flame war in my thread… this response isn’t a ā€œLW and Maya are betterā€ type of thing…

I’m sorry if that means your participation will be limited, but the decison was made for many reasons.

Cheers,
AJE
