I would like to join your project. My name is Kaarlo and I’m from Finnland. I’m 16 years old and I am a concept artist. This is my gallery/web page/portfolio or whatever you want to call it. It has some of my work. The page is currently only in finnish because I just made the page 2 days ago and I hadn’t had the time to translate it. Anyway “valokuvat” is photos, “maalaukset” is paintings and “piirrustukset” is drawings and the three categories in the drawings gallery are animals and creatures, enviroments and man-made things and characters or currently just anatomy studies. I also have a site at deviantart. I would be glad if I could design some creatures for the planets or some cool enviroments or something for your project. I also sent you this as a pm.

So are you just making a trailer first… what is the goal of this project? I was planning on making a short book like “ROBOTA” with a story I’m writing…I was gonna start my project soon… but I realistically can’t for at least a few months. So I would like to help you guys out if you want.

I can draw, and model. I haven’t modeled in a while but I’m dying to get back into it. I use XSI, I don’t know if that is a problem for you.

One of my first drawings is one of his bots. I can draw like him… but I can’t come up with Ideas like him at this point… but I hope to at some point in my life. But if you give me a direction I’m sure I can come up with some good concepts.

All the work looks really impressive so far-- I don’t usually come into this forum-- I should though. I’ll be glad to help out with modelling in maya. If you want to assign me some concept to work from (or if you want it original–just tell me what) I’d be glad to model and texture it to. -I have holidays starting next friday— a ship or person-- something like that – not a city.

There are a lot of forums to go through and different websites too. I just randomly shot all over the place. Maybe you could post a quality colage of the work that has been done on the project so far in other forums and websites-- a summary of where you are etc. Maybe a new feature could be added to the forums so that each project has it’s own gallery where only members of that project can post images but anyone can browse. – This saves on going through all the pages with text which might mean little to a newbie keen on the project. I am not aware of the infrastructure which is in place- about how you deal with files etc. If there is a little pipeline in place so that people know what they are doing and what has been done, who is working on what etc. The best I know of what to do is post on this forum and wait. (this does not bother me)

Also is it created like a studio environment is-- where people are specialising in different fields of production then forwarding their work to the next person in line? (just curious)

I feel that these forums are great to inform and recruit people onto projects-- but not the greatest at organising them.

I currently go to design school(print, video, web) where they have 3D as an elective but it is not an intense course on 3D. I was hoping to get some willing artists and organise a pipeline over the school network – have a local website so that people can comment and share files that way. If anyone has any ideas or comments it would be good to hear from you.

it varies but yes a lot of projects are like a ‘pipeline’ which i think is what we’re talking about, if a person isn’t good at uv’ing etc. they model, someone concept sketches, it all starts with the writing. Do you think goin to forums and sort of recruiting artists would work? for example if someone needs a concept artist, finding them from the wip 2d forum… etc.

i do see what you mean about organizing, if it’s intimidating to try to jump into a project. ON the shirow thread i believe they’re getting around that by creating a synopsis to serve as a jump on point for new people, summarizing what’s done and what needs to be done, and as i’ve suggested before an excel sheet with milestone tracking and hotlinking is the easiest way to record progress.

a lot of this i think would depend on the students’ resources. If they have decent enough machines and are able to afford the programs, then it’s a great idea. If not you guys will probably have to either buy additional seats (licenses) for your programs or find a way to be as efficient as possible. you should go for it tho.

School networking is easy. i’d only warn you that i’ve known of people who go to college and use school networks to hack other people’s computers with ease. so be careful

Here is what is being worked on by me right now.
I also have the eyelashes and eyebrows in place.
All that remains is her hair.
I still need to tone down the splotchyness but she is intended to be a bit pale.

The only image maps in this render are for the eyes.
I chose to use procedural maps combined with weightmaps becouse this means that there wont be any maps size issues.
Longer to set up but easier with file management and all.

Hi all…

Ok for those of you who want to join, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner…(computer issues-no data lost though! Yay!)

Anyways, right now, our primary need is strong concept artists and modelers as MK said.

There is a list on the first page of things to concept/build, and much of that is still up for grabs.

We do have a full site in the works, and while it is almost 100% done, we are holding off on going public with it right now.

If you see something on that list that you’d like to concept out, send me a PM and let me know what you want to work on (so that everyone doesn’t end up on the same thing).

Always glad to see new faces… welcome to the project.

I expect there will be a fair bit of progress this summer. I will definitely be more available.

Hey man… lots of stuff on my plate… I’ve got to finish the fighter model, then some preliminary R&D on explosions, FX and comping, etc…

We’ve got some environments/buildings in the works right now that I’d like to get all done up for some beauty shots.

We’re going to need a few different types of tanks soon too, but they aren’t as urgent.
