the first step: the toughest thing

i’m also an aficionado in computer graphics like you guys. the problem is i dont know where to start.

often i feel soft(lazy) when i’m in front of the computer. but i’m really interested and willing to learn as well. veterans can you throw me a word.

all critics are welcome. this is probably a problem to most of the beginners here as well

Force yourself to start.

Once you get into it, you’ll have trouble stopping. It’ll take some time at first though.

^^ Id totally agree with that. Always have problems starting, even just plugging in my Wacom. But once I get going, you just can’t stop!!

What’s the real reason to your ambiguity? If you know that you are a big step closer to solving it. It could be a number of things, self doubt, undecidedness, yaddah yaddah. Good luck :).

This is always a problem for me. Even when I’m at a figure drawing workshop, and it should be “obvious” - after all, there’s a naked person on stage… duh… - I still need a plan.

I found that my “plans” are not verbally stated (basically, in language), but are visually stated. Usually this means a thumbnail, in the case of a 2D image. But it could be a simplified 3D model. In any case, I obey the following “laws”:

Thou shalt not think too much.
Thou shalt work fast.

I find that 15 minute experiments help me learn software much faster then one really large project. So find some little toy, try to make something with it in 15 minutes, then move on. (And for fun, make hard copies of these experiments and burn them in a pile.)

Also, there are awesome examples in the daily sketch threads.
