hi.
nice job so far. the first thing i noticed was that he looks kinda stiff. like a rigged 3D character if you know what i mean. his upper body doesn’t seem to respond correctly to his lower body
as for the background. the huge burning stones look strange. what is it? i’m sorry my expression but it looks like a pile of dirt in the middle of nowhere
maybe try a castle or a cave. you need more in the back. try to tell a story. it would fit an image like this
last but not least. the depth is strange. look at the character, look at the sword, look at the pile
mho.
good luck
The figure does look a bit stiff and could use a bit more dynamic exaggeration (head tilted back, arms really pumping, and the force of the explosion hitting his back and making him arch his back unintentionally). He’s also too close to the ground. When you are running like that, you do not drop in elevation, and keep a fairly consistent height according to the full extension of your running legs that are pushing off the ground in powerful strides.
The explosion itself also looks limp. There is no sense of explosive power.
The lighting might need to rethinking too. He’s lit fairly brightly, but the background doesn’t seem to be lit by the same lighting as he is. Also, if that’s an explosion, it would likely be brighter than whatever light is lighting him. Do you know what the light source is that’s lighting him? How does that light source compare to the power of an explosion?
I also think the composition is a bit boring. At least zoom out a bit and give the image a stronger sense of location and context. Show the entire scene he’s running from.
