Still refining this piece, but would appreciate feedbacks and suggestions. =)

The painting looks like it’s going to turn out fine.

What I don’t quite understand is her motivation to dress as a chicken and annoy a sleeping ogre with a bell.

Is it a prank? Then you could paint her giggling buddies hiding behind some bushes.

Is she trying to lure the ogre away from his house? Perhaps so that an accomplice can sneak in and steal something? That could be shown somehow.

As it is, I feel that something is missing from the story.

Hmm, before starting out with this image, what I had in mind was that chickens cock-a-doodle-doos in the morning, basically annoying everyone sleeping. So I thought of making a fantasy exaggeration, like hitting the alarm clock adaptation.

But perhaps you’re right on a missing element in the image, I’ll see what else I can add into it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Are you using reference pictures of running people? The girl’s pose looks a bit stiff and unnatural. Perhaps it would help if you just changed the foot so that only the heel or toe is on the ground. Or if the entire foot is off the ground.

Your last update makes it seem that her steps have a hard impact on the ground, as if she doesn’t have any resilience in her legs.

If you want to emphasize a sense of scale, with the ogre being much larger and intimidating, then you could consider changing the camera angle/position. For example, use a worm’s eye view near the girl so that the perspective shows the ogre as much bigger, bearing down on the girl.

You can also consider tilting the horizon, so that the scene has a more immediate sense of drama and movement.

You can also use back-lighting in this scene. When you back-light something that’s big and it’s towering over a worm’s eye view, it’ll look even more scary.

Bleke : Thanks Bleke, I see where you’re going. I’m gonna change that the foot. I did not use a specific reference for people running, kinda just googled and tried examining the overall silhouette. =(

Btw, that’s some awesome running reference, thanks!

Lunatique : Thanks for the awesome feedbacks, Lunatique!
