The Anatomy Thread of ceruleanvii - 2D

Thanks Glenn! That’s a good idea about ading some purple and green, definitely think that’ll help. And thanks Johan. My men, well, yeah that’s how I like them  but with this last WIP maybe I’ll square off his chin and jaw some more. Interesting idea about the flames, I’ll have to try adding some movement to them and see how that works.

Long time no posts - again! But I have been super busy. I finished up that Flames painting and put it in my gallery:

That ended up taking forever, mostly with the flames. Was very glad to finish.

I fell down a flight of stairs a few weeks ago and injured my right arm - my Wacom-ing arm :frowning: It’s better now but that kept me from painting for a bit.

And - I’m teaching a 10 week long digital painting course at a local art college! It’s with the illustration department. I am really, really enjoying it. Makes me think I’d like to do it full time… I’m definitely learning the ropes when it comes to teaching, and there’s a lot I’ll do differently next time, but for now it’s actually taught me a lot - about how to organize what I know, learn about what I don’t and express myself.

Hope you all are well.

Del, I’m sorry to hear about your arm. I’m glad to hear that it’s better, and I hope it stays that way. Best of luck with your class. Teaching is a lot of work!

And I have to mention that I really like your glowing flowers.

Hi Del, congrats on the digital painting course! Awesome that you are having a great time teaching it.

I will be interested in hearing if/when you make the swtich from 3d to 2d for work. When I told Robert I was applying to a 3d animation school last year, he told me that every single colleague of his liked 2d better than 3d. I plan to get started as a modeler or an animator, but I would love to get into concept art eventually.

Some traditional work - older stuff… Went back to my parent’s house in the spring and they’ve been at me to get rid of the old artwork I had cluttering up their basement. So I went through it - tons and tons of it, couldn’t believe how productive I once was!

A back study in compressed charcoal, drawn from an anatomy textbook… color added with Photoshop.

And a master copy, but of whom, I’m not sure… I’m thinking Michelangelo? This was drawn with pencil, with some PS tinting as well -

I’m teaching digital illustration again this fall, which I’m excited about - I really enjoyed teaching. And I’m working on some book covers and personal work in all my copious spare time, ha. I’m in one of those artistic ruts again, feeling like I’ve hit a plateau with my progress and I’m not getting any further. Hopefully things will start moving forward again.
