Hehe! Actually it looks alright after I have looked at it for a while, but it kinda stood out at first viewing. The radial composition is quite captivating! and so are the others too. I love the brush work on the last one. Give us more, Del!

The Anatomy Thread of ceruleanvii - 2D
We were supposed to do perspective last week, but we needed more work with value, defining focal points, etc, so perspective has been pushed up.
But the assignment was to do 3 gothic interiors, from 1, 2 , and 3 pt perspectives, so I had to do a bit of reading up on things. I understand this differences now, but it’s still kinda tricky to do - esp. with gothic architecture! My husband was looking at what I was doing and said “He’s having you do vaulted arches?!? What a sadist!” LOL!
These sketches were supposed to be a bit more thought out than the previous, to tell some kind of story. Which was fun to think about.

Well, I still have a long way to go before I’m any good at this stuff - if ever. But it’s made me think about new things, esp. composition, and how to apply it to my figure paintings. So I’m struggling, but it’s good.
i really and i mean REALLY like the last one.it has alot of potential of being a masterpiece with fine tuning and refinement
Wow they are really pushing you huh… not used to see these kind of things in your thread. So it’s great!
For the last one, the pilar on the right is pulling my eye away from the crossed figure a bit. Perhaps lower the values of it just a tad?
Compositionally, this 3rd piece is indeed very nice. I really love the mother with child and how you positioned them. Awesome framing!
thank you killermachine! thanks Johan - well, these are pretty much just concept sketches, I doubt I’ll do more with them, but you never know -
Yeah, definitely not the typical stuff that’s usually in my thread
and this week the assignment is… Massive High Tech Structure!!! A huge, looming mechanical thing in 1, 2, and 3 point perspective - it doesn’t get more un-Del than that… but I will try my best.
(I can’t help myself, I have started a figure painting even though I have no time, I need to paint skin and hair, I’m suffering massive withdrawals here)
Hi…Del
REALLY like those last ones…especally the last one…has a REMBRANDT feel to it…lighting and atmosphere…BEAUTIFUL technique you have going on there…
Keep up the GREAT work Dell…ALWAYS a pleasure visiting your thread.

thanks Glenn and Magdalena! I’m still working hard with this class… Week before last was perspective, and I struggled. I knew I would. I only made one passable sketch, from a one point perspective. I understand the concepts much better, but it’ll take a LOT more practice before I’m doing anything decent or interesting with it. Architecture is definitely not my thing…

Last week was color theory and fantasy landscapes - much more up my alley!
We had to paint our sketch in 4 different color schemes: analogous, red key, blue key, and complementary.

This week is atmospheric perspective, should be fun!
This week’s sketches.

The assigment was aerial perspective, meaning a view from fairly high up, so that there is lots of atmosphere, scale changes, layering, etc. I probably didn’t go high enough, but I think I did get some atmosphere. The second one was painful - I only had a day and no Maya around to help with the perspective, ouch!
Now we have two weeks to work on our final assignment. I need to figure out what to do, I’m leaning towards more of a landscape, but maybe with a few architectural elements… need to come up with some sketches.
and in all my non-existent free time, I’ve been working on something fun, a Christmas present for me
- small section of a winter figure painting I’ve started, though I probably won’t get to finish it until the end of December.

Oh Del
You are soooo powering a long - made ever so much more noticable from me
not having popped in for a while! Love your gothic interiors - especially the last one
(close up with the goth-angel and the arches) just beautiful and what an inspiring way
to study perspective!
I do like your winter/cat figure painting as well
- being a cat person et all

HEY Del…:wavey:
Just dropping by to see your latest.
I really like that lynx/bob cat one…don’t forget the long triangle shaped tuffs of fur that stick out on the sides of it’s face…a big part of it’s character that distingushes it from other cats.
On that circular one in the snow…I wonder what would happen if you put a castle/Tibetan monistary or something up on that upper far right peak…might create a greater sense of depth and interest…just a passing thought…
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in your final assignment…You might take a look at some Da Vinci’s for inspiration…where it all started…
Anyway, ALWAYS a pleasure and inspiration for me, while visiting your thread…
GOOD LUCK on that last assignment…i’m sure you’ll come up with something GREAT…![]()

Hi Annette - thanks for checking up on me. Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with a serious illness since December, and the treatment is extending into the summer. I’ve been doing a little bit of digital painting but my motivation and energy comes and goes.
Hopefully I will be able to catch up with everyone soon and rejoin you -
Del
Oh Del!
So sorry to hear that you’re not well
Hope the treatment is
successfull & that you bounce back in great spirits soon. Motivation
can be hard, especially when you’re not on top of things… Just remember that you
do lovely work - & don’t let any ‘motivational dips’ colour the way you see
your art.
All the best & take care
Annette
