texturing a human head

#1

Hi,

I just modeled a head with two pictures (front and side), but now I’m looking for a tut on how to texture that head from those pictures. Does anyone know that?
I tried, of course, unwrap and edit, but whan I have the head streched I don’t know how to apply the pictures. It’s impossible to move every points, and around eyes, mouth, nose it’s awfull.
So???

try to explore unwrap as much as possible…also do the unwrap tut in official max tuts which ship with max. use texporter to get a jpg image of your unwrap and bring it in photoshop and paint a texture, save it and apply it to ur model. done

you’re gonna have a hard time to make that head look good with two pictures.
If you want to apply those pictures the way you have them, just use an uvw map modifier, set the mapping to planar, and if nessecary press fit. better would be to carefully unwrap the head and make a custom texture out of it. You could use the front picture of the head as a base for that by the way.

you can add spherical mapping, collapse, then add unwrap uv, hit edit and printscreen wire (or just use texporter)

after that you can paint textures directly on more or less flattened wire… just put head photos on wire and do some free transform/liquify/smudge/clone stamp in photoshop for example… :stuck_out_tongue:

I am also new at this ,but

you can try some good tutorials->3dsmax at at:

such as afro head

i’m not sure about that becaus i hadn#t tried it myself. but i think the new peltmapping included in 3dsmax8 should be a great help for that. you can find a good tutorial about peltmapping at the autodesk site.
