Texture painting plugins?

#1

Hello everyone,

I’ve been looking on the net for a texture painting plugin for some time now, but can’t seem to find anything that does what I want.

What I’m interested in is a plugin for 3ds max 8 or 9 that allows you to paint textures/materials directly on an object’s surface. One of the things I would want to do with such a plugin, is paint textures on a terrain type mesh, or organic objects.

If anyone knows of any plugins like this let me know.

Thank you

Look for 3d Painter Prototype on Maxplugins.de . I haven’t tried it yet, but it could be what you’re looking for.

Thanks. I tried it, it’s not bad for a freeware plugin. One interesting thing is that when you paint with a selected texture on the object surface the UV of the texture follows the spline you’re drawing. However I can’t seem to get it to tile the selected texture, it just stretches it.
Oh well, I’ll continue experimenting. If anything I can still use this to create opacity maps and manually create different material layers.

It is not a plugin but try out 3d coat.
Very easy to use and the trial is free.

Checked out their site, the program looks awesome. If it also does sculpting/normal mapping this could be a suitable substitute for ZBrush.

There’s a pretty long thread about it going on now:

As a 3DCoat user, it’s entirely replaced ZB in my pipeline. I sold my ZB license two weeks ago.

It does everything ZB can do, but more, and better. If you’re interested in it, download the alpha for v3 (keep in mind it’s going through an interface change at the moment), I’m sure you’ll like what you see. It is set to ship next month.

If you have any questions regarding it, please feel free to ask.
