I am new to texturing but am self teaching and learning fairly fast. I have a question that I am having a hard time finding the answer to. The scene below is unwrapped. I grouped together and unwrapped the Tanks(Group1), Pipes(Group2), Shack(Group3), Pump, Pump island, barrel(Group4).
My first thought was to unwrap them all then attach all models and do another unwrap thus applying them all to 1 texture map. The problem I run in to is the model has many details down to screws and bolts and this causes a VERY limited texture space problem.
Should I just apply each group to its own texture map, thus ending up with 4 texture maps?
I would like to use this scene in Unity or Unreal engine as well as use the different models in other scenes. I assume that if I use only 1 texture map I would have to redo the textures if I say for instance use just the gas pump in another scene, is this correct?
